Crying

I posted this on Bubblews back in April 2014. It still holds true.
My granddaughter called me afew days ago freaking out. She had awakened crying. I calmed her down and told her that crying was a good thing. So many people freak out if they feel like crying. I don't understand this. Elephants cry.
Now in emotional crying the body actually expels prolactin, Leu-enkephalin and adrenocorticotropic hormone, and even the elements potassium and manganese. Some researchers think that crying is a release of these hormones when levels get too high. Some say that people cry to get a response from another person or releasing toxins from the body or relieving stress. Socially others think they think more clearly after a good cry. I tend to agree.
Sobbing, weeping, wailing, whimpering, bawling, or blubbering are other sad ways of describing crying.I think sometimes we cry because we don't really know what else to do. When in all reality we are over tired, at the end of our rope, or in some way upset. We cry and are able then to move on from that feeling.
The natural response I get from people I have talked to about crying is that they freak out. They don't want to cry. They feel weak or uncomfortable when they cry. I think it scares them. I don't think they should feel this way. I think people should feel relieved when they cry. Crying is a release the body gives us. Like steam.
What are your thoughts on crying?

I think I will cry if I want too and people can get over being upset about it

As long as it is tears of joy, I'm fine with it. Seriously though, a good cry every now and then is good for the mind, body, and soul.

funny I was just thinking earlier if only I could have a "good" cry as it always makes me feel better. so I am in total agreement.

I don't enjoy crying, but I sure love the feeling that comes afterward. Sometimes I will watch a sad movie just to get in a good crying session. It really helps with anxiety.

Crying always makes you feel better. Sometimes you just hold things in for too long and then you breakdown. I think it is a good thing and there is nothing wrong with crying.

Holding in things is not good for a person. Nothing wrong with it at all.

I do agree with you that crying is a stress relief attribute but this world has turned crying into a negative sign of cowardice, soft, vulnerable and weakness that harshed up the individuals. So it is no surprise that the number of depression and emotional disorders are on the rise. People just have to resort to other means to relieve themselves and turned out wrong than anything else.

@celticeagle That's a really good way of putting it. It's very true. It is like a fresh start.

A good cry is like a fresh start. Like a good rain.

A natural healthy release in moments of both joy and sorrow - I would never hold it against anyone for crying

You might not but they might be embarrassed for showing their emotions.

@arthurchappell .....I have more respect for a man who shows his feelings than one who avoids them or just doesn't go there.

You are right on point about crying. It gets rid of the sad chemicals and leaves me feeling much better.

I think crying is a good way of releasing cooped up emotions.
When I was young , don't cry easily. I was tough or just playing.I don't know. No one can easily make me cry. Even if my brother hurt physically. I guess that waa his frustration he could not make me cry by teasing or picking up on me so he would beat me instead.
But when I reached last 20's little things make me cry. Even a TV commercial makes me teary eyed. There was a time that I suspected that it might be due to birth control pills I was taking to treat my hormonal imbalance.

It's good you made this change. A touching commercial will make me at least tear up too.
