Trash Day

Okay, Monday here is trash collection day. The garbage truck goes by, and collects and compacts whatever we have out on the curb.
I am sure there are many different ways communities deal with this. Ours has a person who lifts and dumps the trash. Our old community had become mechanized with a truck that had mechanical arms. Everyone had a trash cart that the truck could lift provided for free. Old community had a recycling truck that ran once every two weeks. Here we collect our own recyclable material and take it to a community dumpster.
Yard waste does not go in the trash. We have a community burn pile for trees and limbs and a place to compost grass clippings. The fire department is in charge of burning the burn pile, or at least has to be notified.
My mother's parents burned all their trash. Food scraps fed the animals. I compost most of my food scraps.
We are fortunate to have services like trash collection, sewer, and sanitary water lines. Is it different where you live?

the most ungodly noise. He seemed to have something wrong with the automatic'

between the noise and the fumes from his truck I was almost suffocated til
I got the smarts to close the darned window lol

You sure hate to miss it and not get the trash out where they will pick it up.

My previous community was all mechanical. Trash was picked up every Thursday. We had 3 large trash bins, 1 was for trash, 1 for recyclables and one for green wast (lawn clippings). The recyclables and the green waste alternated with trash pick up on Thursday. The green waste was the difficult one during the summer and fall. Sometimes more waste than space fore the cans. Our service was run by the county.
Where we live no, we don't have a county trash company that I know of. Some of our neighbors have trash service but it's different companies that come and it's not mechanical. I'm not sure if this is because I'm not in the city limits but out in the county in what is considered to be more rural/agricultural. We take the trash to work a couple of times a week. People inside the city limits can get burn permits, where I live I don't have to have a permit to burn. Although I can't burn trash or wood, just clippings and small twigs. Mainly the burning is set up so agricultural fields can be burned.

We are very rural. It differs all over the state and it depends on the area you live in. Fields get burnt here a lot too.

Where my daughter lives you can choose your trash contractor as well. I hope it helps keep prices down.

We know many who have to haul their thrash. We have a service, but some don't like the fact that these things are not free. Funny, huh?

Ironic for sure. I am sure they would not want to do the job for free. We have so many free services and the truth is our tax money pays for them. Nothing is free.

Mine is curb pickup. Black boxes for glass and cans, blue box for card board, green box for sticks and things that decompose, and trash cans for everything else.
Lots of boxes.

So your recycling is picked up and you sort it. It sounds good to me. Our yard waste does not get picked up and our only recourse is the "burn pile " for things we do not compost.

That sounds very thorough. In my old community many of us had alley trash pick up, but the new mechanical trucks were too large to do that.

We have pretty good collection services but they are getting so expensive that they will be cut to less frequent pick ups. Not a problem for us - two people in a big house with enough land to shove the bins away from the house - but a big problem for people with limited storage space and big families.

We compost most of our food waste, and recycle what we can, so we do not produce a lot but when we do I want it picked up.There are only two of us as well.
