Day 45
Proverbs 11:20
Proverbs 11:20 They that are of a froward heart are abomination to the LORD: but such as are upright in their way are his delight.
21 Though hand join in hand, the wicked shall not be unpunished: but the seed of the righteous shall be delivered.
22 As a jewel of gold in a swine’s snout, so is a fair woman which is without discretion.
23 The desire of the righteous is only good: but the expectation of the wicked is wrath.
For the most part everyone knows what will get them in trouble, what people like or don’t like, and the do’s and don’ts of society. No one likes to be shunned for what they do, yet it happens all the time.
Solomon told the people what God didn’t like, and what was unacceptable behavior of that day. God doesn’t like people who deal falsely with each other, and said they would receive their punishment. He also said that even though a person dressed well, if their behavior was without discretion, it was still an abomination to God and society. It was better to behave with discretion in everything and receive God’s blessing.
You see the same thing applies today as well. From a young age, you tell your daughters how to dress so they will receive respect from men and not disrespect. You do your best to teach your children right from wrong so they will be accepted in society. Those who deal fraudulently and without discretion soon find themselves on the other side of the law, or shunned by society and nobody likes to be an outcast, friendless and accepted by only those who are like them.
Solomon said God would bless those who were upright in their behavior. Paul laid out how God felt about those who acted with and without contention, and showed God is no respecter of persons.
Romans 2:1 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judge: for wherein thou judge another, thou condemn thyself; for thou that judge do the same things.
2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things.
3 And think thou this, O man, that judge them which do such things, and do the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
4 Or despise thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leads thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasure up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honor and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,
9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that does evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honor, and peace, to every man that works good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
As Christians, then, we are to live our lives with honor, glorifying God with an upright behavior and living peaceably with each other. To do otherwise brings shame and loneliness to our lives.
Let’s pray: Father, let my life be pleasing to you in every way. Help me show discretion in my actions and my speech so people will know you live in me. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.

Yes, what we do says much about us and we can bring glory and praise to God by our good conduct.
