Prescription glasses ordered at long last

Today I had my eye test at the local optician. It was far quicker and less complicated than I remember from the past, although it has been several years now since I was last tested for a new pair. The cataract operations and related treatment took around 14 months, but now I can expect to have glasses with the correct prescription within the next two weeks. I never expected that I could feel so happy about spending a few hundred pounds.

Did you need normal reading lens or progressive lens? The second are pretty expensive.

I was old that reading glass were definitely needed, but for distance the prescription was slight and I could survive well without. Nevertheless, I settled for bifocals. It makes sense to have even a minor prescription and I am accustomed to wearing bifocals.

@LadyDuck If by progressive you are referring to varifocal lenses I find them totally unusable.

@Asylum I only need the glass to read, my husband has a complicated situation and he needs progressive.

I got a new pair a few weeks ago. Didn't spend as much as I used to but still no change from £200. It was a bit of a nightmare. Got the new ones and couldn't see particularly well. went to a rival opticians for another test and they explained "underprescribing" and said I should go back. I pphoned the first optician and went back for a retest where they spent a long time on me Then the guy said I'd been quite badly underprescribed so they made me new glasses and added some coatings for free.

Fortunately I have never had poorly prescribed glasses, which would be a serious annoyance.

I hate those damn coatings I refuse to have them they become quite scratched after a while. Glad you got them sorted!

Good for you, now you just need to choose the frame that suits you which will also cost a few hundred .... boy, such a high price for good vision.

I have chosen the frames, so now I only have to wait for a telephone call to collect them.

Now you reminded me. I have a letter from the opticians somewhere and should make an appointment. Glad you will have clear vision with the right glasses soon. It makes all the difference.

Yes, it certainly does and with bifocals I will not have the inconvenience of putting glasses on to read and removing them to look around me. During the long period spent attending the eye hospital I received about 3 letters from the optician reminding me that my check up was overdue. I found this absurd since their optician recommended the cataract operation and referred me.

General vision is not am issue since the cataract operations, but reading can be really difficult. This makes many things a problem, even checking prices in the shops.

@pgntwo After 14 months at the eye hospital 14 days is not a great delay.

@Asylum Ok, I would not want to make a spectacle of myself... :) 14 days is a long enough time to wait for them, given the price paid.

Doesn't hurt so bad when you know it is something you really need and is the right product for the job.

In this case it is money well spent and the glasses are more important than the cash.

I'm happy you're happy with your prescription glasses purchase... I have never been prescribed some reading glasses before... but I may need a pair after my next eye exam as I've noticed it gets difficult for me sometimes to differentiate an '8' from a '0'...

I am certain that you will not be happy with the prices involved, but it does become a necessity.

Funnily enough the Gate Boarding notices at the airport were a pain because there were high up and an acute angle, which worried me at times.
