Doomsday V: Solar Storm

Solar storms are an event where the Sun releases a Coronal Mass Ejection into space at 1 million miles an hour and this happens roughly every 100 years. It happened here on Earth in September of 1859; Quebec, Canada in 1989 and barely missed us in 2012.
If one were to happen today, 17 hours before the hit, scientists would alert electrical companies because once the flare hits our magnetic field, auroras would cause power surges and there would be complete electrical outages causing fast currents to start fires and food, water, energy, transportation and emergency generators would be completely out.
12 hours later, all transformers would be out, wires would melt. Gas pipelines would explode and rescues would be impossible. Gas Stations and ATM's wouldn't work and there would be no refrigeration. Food supplies by the government would only last 30 days and grocery stores would be empty.
2 weeks after the hit, people would head into the wilderness for food and considering 3/4 of Americans have never hunted, they would probably shoot each other by accident.
After 3 weeks, anarchy would start and people would devolve into tribal states and Doomsday Preppers would become targets. Nuclear plants would short out and start to explode because the fuel rods would overheat and cause radioactivity.
Within 6 weeks 5 billion would be dead from the radiation. There would be no AC or heat and water would be completely polluted.
Within 3 months, there would be mass starvation and dehydration and the satellites that were in space would short out and fall to the Earth like comets. Since people are not prepared and haven't had to live like the 1800's, cities would be abandoned and people would head to lakes and orchards for sustenance.
1 year after the hit there would still be no power and people would have to learn to plant crops by hand and learn now to make steam pumps for electricity. 90% of mankind would be dead.
Congress held meetings in early 2000 about this possibility but since electric companies are privately owned, they refused to spend the money to update their systems for protection in case an incident like this happened. Nothing like cooperation is there!

Yeah, why should the govt do anything to help; they're too busy stealing our money for other 'stupid' stuff. @just4him .

I fish, so hopefully the streams wouldn't be in too bad a shape @TheHorse . Otherwise, I'd be like a glow worm at night.

It's scary to know there are so many things we can't control @acelawrites .
