My new kitchen toy....

I watched the demo of this unit a month ago but didn't put much thought into to. I 'assumed' you used it to cook frozen french fries. It was on a all day Sunday two weeks ago and this time I paid attention to the demo.
Since we don't fry food, I have gotten used to cutting potatoes in chunks, tossing with Olive Oil and baking at high temperature to make them crisp on the outside. While it worked it also meant a 450 degree oven for at least 45 minutes and then the mess of cleaning that glass pan.
With the air fryer here are the instructions: Cut potatoes into french fry shapes using mandolin or whatever method you like. Soak the potatoes in cold water for at least 10 minutes or overnight. Thoroughly dry them, pat dry on towel, put the in a bowl and add 2 teaspoons of vegetable or olive oil...put in the basket and follow the cooking instructions for the air fryer. Since the basket is non-stick clean-up should be a breeze.
We have the potatoes soaking now and can't wait to see how this turns out. I did make sure to buy the cookbook that is specifically for air fryers (there are several brands on the market) but I got Cook's Essentials because that's what QVC sells.
The cookbook is amazing, a photo of every dish and what seems like simple, step-by-step instructions. You can cook everything from appetizers to desserts in the air fryer. This out to keep my busy over the winter!
Hum....I've tried every trick in the book to get the photo rotated and it won't work...welcome to Windows 10 and my first complaint!
Ops - it took a while but I managed to get the photo going in the right direction LOL
Photo is mine.

I have been curious about the air fryer. I've been meaning to get one when we need to fry egg rolls and chicken but of course we do not want the fat. Baking and grilling works too but not as crispy and as you pointed out it's too much of a hassle. Please review on here when you have the chance!

It has a learning curve for sure. When the recipe says use Russet potatoes, it means it LOL

Air fryer huh? I just splash with olive oil and Spike, then put on a foiled cookie sheet and cook like you do in the oven. I have never had a picture turn weird on me. There is always the first time I guess.

I do the same thing in a pan but this is lots less cleanup, and faster than the oven. I have no clue why it turned on its side....I've posted other photos on FB etc. and they all came out right side up.

Such a great way of frying without fat could eventually make a frying pan redundant. Let's hope it goes global.

I loved things like that for the summer, didnt want to add the heat to the home from actually baking

People always say that...I use my oven all summer and it doesn't heat up the kitchen...sure when you open the door it's hot, but that's a minute or less. Maybe I just have well insulated ovens.

@Jessicalynnt Why a bigger deal in TX? It was 95 plus degrees 40 some days in a row this past summer..

The photo process in Win 10 is different from Win. 7 so other than the first one being positioned wrong, I am having a hard time finding where they get filed on the computer....a learning curve for sure. There is an apple pie dessert I am going to make.

@AbbyGreenhill Learning won't hurt - but its a pain when something so simple is so complex. :)
Apple pie sounds great ! And is the machine red or orange (your favorite color is red I believe right?!)

There are several manufacturers making them. They, like Windows 10, is a learning experience.

that sounds interesting and a fairly healthy frying option... you'll have to give us an update on how you get on...

I have to give it some time and test a few recipes before I'll say how good/bad it is. LOL
