Last month I wrote that I was worried about getting my driver's license renewed because it was discovered that I have cataracts. I made an appointment with an ophthalmologist, who encouraged me to take the eye exam for the license, saying if they failed me he would do the paperwork to report that I should pass.
I took the test at the Dept of Motor Vehicles (DMV) and I passed! Yeehaw!
My next appointment with the eye doctor is on Nov 11. I've been putting one drop of glaucoma medicine in my left eye for awhile now, ever since the second visit to the doc. What, I didn't mention he said I have glaucoma? I'm still in denial.
Next visit, more testing with pupils dilated.
I need to get a (better) social life!

@blitzfrick I do not know why I wrote blood pressure, of course it's the aqueous humor. The laser surgery was not "too" painful, bu unpleasant and I had blurred vision for about 8 hours after the surgery. Of course I did one eye at a time, it's just for safety.

I'm glad you passed! I have cataracts forming, too, and I am nervous about my next driver's license but I have another year to worry about it. I should make an appointment with my eye doctor before the first of the year so insurance will help cover it. I hate the thought of having to have surgery, though and I'm afraid that's what she will recommend.

@blitzfrick Just the thought of someone doing something to my eye is unnerving! There really is no other choice, though, if we want to be able to see. I will be curious to know how it goes with you.

I too hate the thought of having to have surgery. A friend of mine recently had it and oh yes, I was the first one to reassure her that everything would be alright, not to worry, etc. Of course those reassurances were no more than smoke and mirrors to help her along. Now that I'm facing the same surgery, hmmm, I'm not so reassured, LOL. I accidentally saw a tv special about the very surgery I'm to have and it didn't make me feel any better about it. Oh well, I'll go through it and then it will be over, at least until I have to have the same surgery on my other eye, erk!

Good luck to the hubs! If not this time, rest assured his day will come for the glasses route.

Thanks, I'm very happy to have my license renewed. It's good for 8 years, too, and that's a relief. The glaucoma readings have been the same since the early 1980s and as far as I know haven't been a threat until now, when combined with the cataracts.

Congrats on passing the eye test at the Dept of Motor Vehicles. That is wondeful and must be such a relief for you.

Oh yes it's a huge relief! I'm good for two more years, now that I've passed.

@Happy2BeMe On closer inspection of the license, I find I'm good for eight more years, woohoo!

My husband's renewal is coming up this month too and he thinks he still doesn't need glasses or corrective lenses to pass the eye test. I hope he's right...
