Contraception for goats.

The nursery attended by Little One keeps a few animals; they have a rabbit, some chickens and some goats. Last year two of their nanny goats had kids. The owners were expecting two but ended up with five when one nanny gave birth to twins and the other to triplets! The other morning as Big One and I were walking Little One to nursery (school was closed for half term) I noticed one of the goats wearing what appeared to be a sort of apron. At first I thought it might be some kind of jacket that had come loose and slipped round, but eventually it dawned on me – goat contraception! Sure enough back home a Google search identified it as an ‘anti-mating apron’. Then I had to explain to Big One ; I was a bit flummoxed when she asked ‘but can’t the nanny goat just walk around the other side of it’? I had to fetch a couple of suitable goats from the toy farm and demonstrate goat mating technique! All rights reserved. © Text and image copyright Fleur 2016.

You should post a video of your goat mating demonstration.

@Poppylicious You might be on to something here. A fun way of teaching the kids about the birds and the bees. And the goats. And chickens. And horses...

@WorDazza I expect it's already been done. We've probably missed the boat.

She could put it on YouTube for other parents to use. Maybe she could then include other animals. A whole farm. It might be quite the money-spinner. :)

Poor goats, to be in close proximity and not be able to do anything about it must be very frustrating.. I've never heard of one of those aprons.

I was trying to imagine exactly what she was thinking, but I didn't want to ask and risk having to go into too much explicit detail!

@Fleura This is the problem with kids, they have a great imagination.

I'm still trying to figure out the contraption. Would it work on humans? I hope Big One wasn't traumatized.

No they're more flexible. I'm surprised it works for goats actually. Big One was just interested.

@JudyEv She doesn't seem to have, that's what is odd, I must have not been performing my parenting duties appropriately!

@Fleura I keep forgetting that kids nowadays have a lot more knowledge than when I was young. I would probably have had Mum using a cabbage!
