Defective computer battery

Remember I've told you about the computer drama I had back in September with my MacBook Pro? Well, it's been continuing to go downhill from there. This past Thursday night, I had a nightmarish computer scare. Before I shut down my computer, it fell asleep on its own and didn't wake up or restart. I had a panic attack and thought my computer died on me. I've called my brother to let him know. He suggested to check the battery and the AC adapter. I did and nothing happened. So I did multiple rounds to get through with Apple Care and schedule an appointment this weekend. Then my dad called and I talked to him. He's convincing me to get a new computer, if it's fried, and not one of Mac. He also sent me another check to put into my emergency savings fund that I would get this week. After I got off the phone with him, I finally got through to Apple Care and scheduled an appointment for this past Saturday, in which I didn't need.... Because before I went to bed, after I rearranged and sorted my cords, plugs and wires, it rebooted on its own. I called my brother. But it turned out, I had a low battery. Now, it's been not charging at 2% and working from the power adapter to get on and use. I did a live chat with Apple two hours ago and told them about the issue. I did try to reset the System Management Controller. But I'd forgotten to mention about the water damage from September to them. Now I think I have a defective non-removable battery that I need to replace in my laptop. When they call back in about 2 hours, I'm going to mention that to them and see what they say about getting a new battery if possible and/or REALLY taking it to the Mac store this weekend. Besides getting an external keyboard and speakers this September, I hope my computer won't die on me next. The power button and space bar are the only buttons that still work on my dying laptop. I'll update you later tonight on what Apple said for a possible resolution. Have this happened to you Mylotters with this computer problem?

I think you dad is right and maybe get a new Mac, I know you've had lots of problems and sooner or later it's never turn on again and you need a computer. I know it's the cost of buying a new one. Last year my battery didn't last long and bought a new one off Amazon and it's sill working well, and it didn't cost much to buy. I do have problems from time to time, the least one is after the Windows update which turns off all the UBS ports.

@KristenH Oh no, not a non-replaceable battery, that's bad. Well, hope your laptop keeps working for you.

@kevin1877uk Yeah for my MacBook Pro, I can't replace it on my own. Me too, just by power adapter alone.

He's been trying to convince me to not get Apple like Microsoft Word. Yep that's the biggie. I have made $1000 with my 7th client so far at Upwork and need another 15 to reach that goal. It might not be until next year though. Oh that stinks. My battery is non-replaceable for my MacBook Pro.

probably still worth just getting another computer rather than struggling with it

Probably. My dad wants me to switch to a cheaper brand than Apple these days.

@arthurchappell Thanks Arthur. It might not be until next year at this rate, unless my brother changes his mind on going to Apple, which I doubt. Happy tablet hunting.

nope, i aint 'd those kinda troubles, but've ne'er taken a puter swimmin' either. the son got the hubs a used puter, the screen jest needed replaced. 'n easy fix 'n now the hub's got a $500 puter fer 'bout $53. trouble 'tis though, that the port where ya put the charger 'tis loose - somethin' the son'd not checked. one's gotta put the charger'n jest so 'r there's no charge't all. minor hiccup, the hubs rarely uses't anyhow. hope yer able to get'cher troubles resolved.

No worries. I'm glad I saved my work on Friday just in case for back-up. I'll let you know the latest, when I schedule my apple care appointment as soon as I hear back from my brother to pick the date and time this week. *sigh*

OMG I would have no patience with that thing. I'd just get a new one.

I might at some point. Good thing I have emergency money stocked up from Upwork at Paypal. Do you know any cheaper brands to buy, other than my usual Apple?

@KristenH I'm no expert on computers. I have a Lenovo ThinkPad which has been wonderful.

@NJChicaa OKay. I just talked to Apple and they said it's defective. So I need to take it to Apple this weekend for repair.
