Divided State

Yesterday morning on the radio two disc jockeys were talking. One was trying to get the other to tell him who he voted for (the state of Washington uses mail in ballots). The guy said, “It really doesn’t matter who I voted for President because this is a blue state and not a purple state (“purple” meaning it could vote either party). What is important is all the local candidates running for local and state offices. And the other offerings on the ballot.”
This is true. As far back as I can remember Washington state has voted for the Democratic party for President. Most of these votes come out of the west side of the state. Since there are more people living in the Seattle area their votes usually carries the state. Because of this there was talk of the east side of Washington state seceding from Washington state and forming a new state. The east side normally votes Republican. Some people thought the new state ought to be named Cascade. I can see it now. I live in Spokane, Cascade. Come and visit our beautiful state of Cascade.
It never happened and sounds like it never will so we still live in Washington state. And the west side of the state still carries the votes. Nearly every office on the east side of the state is held by a Republican and nearly every office on the west side is held by a Democrat.
Even though the state will most likely vote Democrat we still have a lot of other issues to vote on. And, yes, I voted and no, I’m not telling you who I voted for because it is immaterial since the state will most likely go Democrat. (And I don’t care to ague the point.)
Do you live in a state that is divided mostly in half (one side from the other) when voting?
Here’s some music:

There is a lot of that in Oregon too, the east and west divide, but always blue. California is divided too, though it is a blue state. My wife was just in rural northern California last week and Trump signs were all over, but it is a blue state too I am glad to say.

Thank goodness we had more parties to vote for other than a Democrat or a Republican. We could even writing in a candidate.

@RichardMeister I guess, but I want my vote to count toward defeating Trump and electing a Democrat.

Great song! I heard that it is in demand as a wedding song. Very strange, considering the lyrics.

Although I knew we were divided in CA, I wasn't sure of the demographics of the split. It is a blue state, but I was looking at the electoral vote "map" and realized what a difference there was from the north and south.
This is one my mom's favorite Beatles songs!!
