Diary Tuesday 8th November 2016
A rare day this week not dominated by job search appointments. I decided to travel out and gather some pub sign images in the more remote areas of Preston, enjoying a lovely walkabout in Longridge despite the cold weather. Darkness and rain arrived together heralding my time to return home.
My walk also took in some interesting war memorials and a strange unexplained Celtic-cross like monument, though it dates from 2000 AD, included here in the photo for this diary.
Diary Wednesday 9th November 2016
On the day that dawned with the (for me) shocking news of Donald Trump’s victory in a very nasty election campaign for the US presidency, there were more reasons to be angry and bitter.
I got a threatening letter in the mail from TV licensing claiming that they have been unable to reach me to find out if I have an unlicensed TV set or not. I have told them repeatedly that I have no TV. The letter claimed the inspector had knocked this morning but found me out which was utterly dishonest of him. I phoned the licensing centre who told me it was nothing for them to investigate and promised not to hassle me again, but I strongly expect they will.
Back to job searching, and the weather was really cold today, with freezing mist setting in later on after I relaxed with a long library visit before my flat and evening meals beckoned me away.

is that even a thing? an unlicensed tv? SO odd! Love the photo though, would love if it had a placard explaining it

@Jessicalynnt yes, our TV's have to be licensed as our biggest stations are run by the BBC who don't use advertizing so the license fees pay for their programmes - trouble is they make it illegal not to have your TV licensed even if you don't watch their shows and the fees go up as a heavy tax every year - they get very nasty with anyone caught with unlicensed TV's. They have now made computer downloads of their shows illegal too

@Jessicalynnt very much my feeling but to the licensing people it means I have a TV but hide it well - the idea that anyone might just not have one is alien to them

I'm rather enjoying its absense in my life

Sounds like a miserable day. Mine is over, thank goodness. I am ready to go lay down.

Hope they finally understood that you have no TV. To get cheaper Internet connection my hubby accepted a senior citizen deal where we pay for Internet and for Interactive TV which comes out cheaper. The problem is that we couldn't get the decoder to work on an old TV we have so we chose to watch the TV through the Internet. Then there was nothing on worth watching so we stopped watching TV altogether. Now my hubby said well if he is also paying for the TV he would like to see what is on. The next problem is that I now cannot find a connection on the Internet and now I have to get in touch with the company. It never seems to be an easy thing it is always a hard one.

It is so annoying when companies go over and over the same stuff despite repeated attempts to give them the information they insist they need. Hope they get off your back now.
