Disgusting

That is what I think about selfish people on the road who endanger others or interfere with safety vehicles.
The town where hubby works has a lot of road construction going on at an intersection of a state highway and a main/north south road. Wal Mart and a number of other businesses and fast food places and hotels can only be reached by a circuitous manner. Many lights are out of commission and drive ways and access points to frontage road are closed.
We had been to a restaurant and were going in to the road along side Wal Mart so hubby could work some more. There had been sirens a few minutes before, and we were at the only accessible intersection, waiting. When emergency vehicles are dispatched the city safety center can control the traffic lights and did.
With vehicles coming toward the intersection with lights and sirens three people chose to turn and interfere with their progress, against the lights. Two of them were semis, which means as they made their turn they down shifted and slowed the ambulance and rescue truck to the pace of snails.
I hope someone did not die because of this.
Years ago a man died in an ambulance on Main Street in this town because people were busy "dragging Main" and would not yield to let the ambulance through to get to the hospital.
There are other rude traffic behaviors, but to me this is one of the worst.

If they lived here they would receive a huge fine for doing that.

If their information was caught, I think they will.

I had one relative that passed away because of the road accident. Since that, I began to have a phobia in crossing the highway. It is not safer to cross when the road has no island.

Maybe they'll learn when it's someone they care about inside that ambulance, or when it's their own house on fire.

That is so terrible. People are not thinking.

Or they are thinking that saving five to ten seconds on their part is more important than saving a life. It is terrible. As @Hatley mentioned, someone can be seriously in trouble and perhaps die.

Yes, thankful also that they did not cause a traffic accident while doing this as the emergency vehicles were moving at a high rate of speed and could have crashed into them.

Yes, those sirens make us want to pray for all involved and wish them well. It is the law here that we pull over. There is seldom anyone to enforce it, unless it is later. Those respectful people who give the right of way are good.

One thing that is not permitted for the drivers to do here is just that they have to pull in one side right away or its a heavy fine. I learned to pull in quick to let all those kinds of Emergency through. Let them through first you go on after that is how it is here at least. If you block the Ambulance or Fireman in the Traffic its a really heavy fine.

I would like to see that get reported and a cop show up later to give a ticket!

I have accidentally blocked a fireman. I was approaching a traffic light when the vehicle behind me activated a green flashing light. I pulled as far to the right as possible.....blocking the fireman who was making a right turn. Oops.

That was an accident, though and not deliberate as this was. I imagine you were regretful and embarrassed.

It really is terrible when motorists get in the way of emergency vehicles. I think they are disgusting too.
