Day 68 Proverbs 12:25 Proverbs 12:25 Heaviness in the heart of man makes it stoop: but a good word makes it glad. How often do you get a letter or phone call from someone you haven’t heard from in a long while and it just made your day? You might have been going through some rough times and your heart was heavy, and you didn’t know where to turn, and then that phone call came, or a letter in the mail and it just made all the difference in your life at that moment. You don’t need to go through anything major in your life to feel depressed and out of sorts. You might not even know why your heart is heavy, and you might not know how to make everything right in your world, but then something happens, a call, an unexpected visitor, even a song on the radio can make all the difference in your life at that moment. Maybe you have been that someone to a friend or family member. As king, father, son, and friend, Solomon knew the value of a timely word. He knew what it felt like to have family members warring against each other. He knew what it was like to have those same family members kill each other. That would make any heart heavy, and cause your life to become unsettled. As Christians, you are to be a light in the darkness. You are to comfort those who mourn and lift up the hands that hang down. Isaiah 35:3 Strengthen ye the weak hands, and confirm the feeble knees. 4 Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you. Hebrews 12:12 Wherefore lift up the hands which hang down, and the feeble knees; 13 And make straight paths for your feet, lest that which is lame be turned out of the way; but let it rather be healed. (KJV) Today, be an encouragement to someone. Be a blessing. Put a smile on someone’s face. Give them a hug, smile. Let them know you are there. Be a friend. When you do, whatever problem you had will melt away and your heart will also be light. Let’s pray: Father, help me be a blessing to someone today. Help me encourage and lift up those who need a little bit more of you in their life. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen. Copyright © 13 November 2016 by Valerie Routhieaux Image courtesy of Pixabay
