Cutting/Trimming My Own Bangs

Sometimes, DIYs (do-it-yourself’s) are better options than going out and buying what is being offered, or availing services which are not at par to your preferences. And sometimes, DIYs are better left to professionals. I have mentioned in one of my previous posts that I hemmed my own jeans since I got “inspired” with my still brand new, never been used, top of the line (I think) sewing machine complete with all the accessories and shebang any decent seamstress will approve of. While it was not perfectly executed by any means, it was done well enough that unless you scoot down and closer to me you will not notice that the stitches are not straight. Anyway, after the success of my DIY hemmed jeans, I decided to cut or trim my own bangs.
Now, I have been getting my haircut from different stylists when I moved here in the US but so far, nobody has managed to actually cut my hair like how I want it. I even showed old photos of myself with the cut that I want, even tried to make suggestions and verbal guides to them while cutting my hair but I remained unsatisfied. Since my bangs has grown longer that they poke my eyes, I decided that I will give it a try myself.
I watched Youtube videos and managed to come across videos of girls with hairstyles closer to what I currently have. Since I only have sideswept bangs, it is not going to be as difficult as how it is going to be for full bangs.
I took out my new-ish pair of clippers (which I got when I purchased this beauty set) and started snipping. I only took off an inch and a half so I will not look funny if I did not manage to do it correctly. When I found out that it turns out okay, I decided to go on ahead and trim it. I must say I am perfectly happy with the results. Truly, one can do something they thought they never can once they put their mind to it. Of course, there are instances that certain things be better left for professionals to do.
Now, I am thinking of doing my own hair instead of going through different stylists again only to be disappointed once more. I don’t know, but for this one I am thinking of attending classes but for personal purpose only. We’ll see if the risk of cutting my own hair will outweigh the benefits and disappointments of getting it done in a salon.

Great way to save money. I can understand about timing and getting a good cut. Several hair cuts were so bad I thought putting a bowl on my head and cutting my hair would have looked better.

I usually go to the barber shop for a haircut; however, there have been two or thre times that I have gotten the scissors and cut the hair myself. It hasn´t been too bad at all.

I like DIY projects too, mostly inspired by Pinterest. I have many Pinterest inspired projects that actually work for me and at the same time I have lots of Pinterest half finished projects. I love pinning projects but just can't manage to finish them all!

I understand how frustrating it is to have the style you want yet the result is a reverse. And it's kinda difficult to find a hair cutter/dresser that would do as you say.
For trimming, I do it myself as well.
But if I need more inches cut from hair or need a new style, luckily I have my aunt who knows how to do it.

When I was young I was always cutting my hair. I'd find a picture in a movie magazine and try it on my own head. Now day my hair is very long. About every three or four months I trim it after a washing. I remember one time my aunt cut my bangs. Couldn't get them straight. She finally quit trying when they were about a half an inch.

Im glad DiY worked out for you.
I have myself never entered a saloon for anything ever....when i was younger, my mom cut my hair...and for the past 5 years i have been doing it on my own...its quite simple once you get the hang of it...and there is always the added benefit of money saved.
