Not Having Dads For The Holidays

I was watching an episode of the Waltons where dad came home from Arizona, where he has been with his sick wife, to spend Thanksgiving with the family. I realized none of my family have their dads around.
My dad died of cancer back in the late 90's. My daughter's dad died of some mile long type of cancer of the brain back in the 80's. My grandson's dad is clear across town, rehabilitated from some supposed injury he was in recently. Can't come get him for the holidays or even come over to visit.
Sad how life turns out sometimes.

Life changes. We used to have huge Christmases at my home with all the family around. I´d teach the children some Christmas carols and then we´d open the presents. Now I don´t even put up a Christmas tree at home. I go to one of my daughter´s home and I´m the general helper and the person with the huge bag to put all the wrappings there so the children can play.

When I was young we had the big dinners at grandma's and grandpa's place. Ever year for so many growing up. I used to go with my two cousins and sing Christmas carols. We don't put up a tree anymore either. Too expensive and nothing to put under them.

@marguicha .....That's true. But we must be ready for change. I don't like it much but, that's life.

sometimes our family is what we make of it, like say spending time at a nursing home with others who dont have family or are lonely
