Did we really need more apple pie?

We enjoy making what we call 'apple somethings' rather than apple pie. The ingredients are pretty much the same, but these are easier to toss together and it helps young ones get their start in the kitchen. In addition to apple somethings, we like to make pumpkin somethings instead of pumpkin pies. We usually add a bit of ingredients some might not think make sense, but it all works for us. Such goodies such as these can be a healthy choice with the right ingredients. The photo here is of recent apple somthings made by us. Do you enjoy baking pies and other dishes family and friends will enjoy?

I'd rather make and eat apple crumble instead of apple pie.

I can bake, but prefer making nibbles, main courses, and side dishes. I let others bring the desserts. I wish they would bring me some of those delicious looking somethings!

It is all good fun and most just enjoy food no matter who is cooking or baking.

I do but pie is not my best dish, I make crumbles, crisps and galettes.

@Marty1 They are a rustic open faced pie. I love making them in strawberry rhubarb and apple.

Baked sliced apples taste good with a little bit of brown sugar and cinnamon added. My family loves it.

I don't bake much. But I'm a sucker for coconut cream pie and banana cream pie.

I've always enjoyed baking but these days I don't have as many people to eat them. I brought my last apple pie to the party the other day and left it there! I can't keep those things around my apartment any more or they just go to waste.

It makes no sense to cook too much if there is not a crowd. Some in our group volunteer at a soup kitchen so they can cook more.

@PatZAnthony I should find out if I can do that since I love to cook and bake. It would be so nice to be able to give to those who have nothing.

I've never baked a pie but I used to bake cakes using Duncan hines boxed cake mix. If I had to make one from scratch it probably would flop like a floppy.

The thing with apple somethings (we should share directions here) we just put sliced apples that have been rolled in whatever we have around, put crumbs on the top and put in a baking pan that has crumbles sprinkled on the bottom or ground nuts. Simple and takes good too.

The problem here is that I'd like to know exactly what you put into these and how you put them together. If you're not willing to share here, maybe in a pm? I'm curious what ingredients don't make sense. These look a bit like apple crisp which I tried to make recently but it didn't turn out so well.

Yes, the crust does not have to be there for things to taste good.

You can never have too many apple pies and crumbles! Just so long as there is plenty of custard

I do enjoy baking but not actual cooking...such as making meals. I have always loved baking.

I prefer apple somethings as you describe them to the real apple pie. Anne makes a great apple crisp, much easier than rolling pie crusts. I never eat whipped cream on pie or anything.
