Unexpected Thing To Do On A Monday Morning

This morning I was pleadingly requested by the Marketing officer to give the welcome address to the Regional Tagis Talino of fourth year high school students (Battle of the Brains ) done at the celebration plaza of the mall we manage. Her reason of choosing me was that , I am dressed well for the program and good at speaking in front of people . What is a bit difficult was that it was in Tagalog , which we rarely use since high school and even now , though of course I know except for some words . But somehow I managed and made just a short one . And what surprised me , was that after the program I was made to sit in the middle of the Division Chief of the Department of Education and its Coordinator at the stage for pictures of each participating teams , as you can see us in one of the many pictures taken . Oh what an unexpected but exhilarating thing to do on a Monday morning . I love the challenge actually . Have you experienced having to do something impromptu ?

It's alright with me if it is in Filipino. I am afraid to make mistakes in my grammar especially if the visitors are of high ranking officials.

I have to search what's the English word for some word though like welcome . As for me since it is impromptu and no time to memorize it , i type it in big letter and read it once in a while . Besides it's in Tagalog so i know the correct grammars . But that is true , it could be intimidating if there are high ranking officials though .

Bicol and Tagalog of course . But it's easier to make a welcome address in English . It's good to see you again here .

The only speech impromptu that I did was back in the call center training days. And I was all out embarrassing back then.

@SIMPLYD I used to model, too, but wouldn't let my husband come to fashion shows, because I felt too self conscious

Do you usually speak English? I thought that Tagalog was your national language. I normally speak Italian. It was a great honor to welcome the high school students.

Not really . Though written communications are always in English . We speak the dialect of our province , Bicol . We get to talk Tagalog if there are people coming from Manila or neighboring towns that speak Tagalog . Though , in this contest , they advocate speaking in our national language , Tagalog or in Pilipino . There are words that are not easy to find the appropriate word in Tagalog that's why , i have to research for them . Indeed , i was honored to give the welcome address .

Not me, but my mother. You cannot rely on me on matters like this, like speaking in front of other people, unless it is really really needed.

@SIMPLYD Yup... but she admits that she was also shy before. But that changed when she started serving in church as lector and commentator. And she had more exposure when she became our parish pastoral president...

So you also worked in a bank . Me too , i worked for more than 15 years then resigned , became a housewife for about 4 years , then got employed again. I think , we should always be well dressed because we are in the corporate world . As to being talkative , it is our nature and that's good , right ?

did you have to write your own speech? it would be hard if you have no idea about the topic. did the marketing officer attend the event?

Thank you for that nice compliment . That is true , when we are in a situation where you have no choice , you just have to face it confidently . I always have to face this kind of situation because anyway , my boss always would require me to . No choice .
