Got My Bifocals

Just returned from the eye doctor and got my new bifocal glasses after the 2 cataract surgeries. Now the fun of getting used to them begins. Unfortunately, some new cataracts grew and I still have problems with them. But I have to wait that they are more developped to have them removed by laser. Not a happy camper here at all right now.

I hope you get used to your new glasses quickly. I never heard of cataracts growing so quickly! Hopefully the next surgery will be your last!

What you will be experiencing is a hazing of the surface of the artificial lens, which is not uncommon and just requires polishing off with a laser. I do not understand why glasses were prescribed prior to removing the coating because it impair the vision slightly and result in a wrong glasses prescription.

@marlina At least the laser treatment is a very basic formality.

Congrats on finally getting your new glasses! Bifocals do take some time to get used to.

The doctor told me that it might take more than a week. Right now, find it difficult.

@marlina I have bifocals and do remember having to get adjusted to them. Now it's no big deal and I forget I have them.

Some mixed emotions here. Happy to hear you got your glasses. Sad you have to continue with the cataract problems.

I didn't know that new ones could develop, I guess that's something I should consider as a possibility if and when I'm eligible for that same surgery. I got my first bifocals when I was in my forties. I've had both the no-line type and the ones that show the lines. I tend to like the ones with the lines better mostly because then when I can't read fine print I know what part of the lenses to look through right away. A few years ago I requested trifocals and I now have them too. I adjusted quite quickly to those probably because I'd been using the bifocals for almost twenty years already. If you only need them for reading, then it will probably take you a bit longer to get used to them than it would if you had to wear the glasses all the time. But, that would negate the main benefits of having the cataract surgery in the first place.

I got a progressive lens instead of a bifocal. My eye doctor recommended that because she said I'm usually working in front of the computer and it's best that i use progressive instead of a bifocal. And when I first had them, I had to take time adjusting to them.

I hope that you got the progressive bifocals, they don't take a lot of getting used to-except for the going down the stairs.

Oh no, I hoped that your cataract problem was over. Good luck with the new bifocals, it takes a bit of time to get the habit to the new eyeglasses.

I too am going to need bifocals, I hope they aren't to hard to get used to. I am sick of the headaches behind my eyes here lately.

@marlina I was told that soon you will adjust, but never had bifocals so I'm worried. Hope it gets better for you.
