Asian Invasion

No, not the human variety but the Asian Lady Beetle. For the passed few days, my place has been swarming with this variety of beetle all trying to get inside my house. Everyone is familiar with the Ladybug; which is similar in looks (except for coloring) to the Asian Lady Beetle.
The Ladybug is harmless, but let me tell you, the 'other' one does bite. So here I was, acting like a wild woman with a fly-swatter, chasing them all over the house. And trust me, don't try opening your front door because the new swarm is ready to enter.
Hopefully with the drop in temperatures this coming week, it will eliminate the problem; otherwise, I'll be a prisoner in my own home.
What's the difference between Asian Lady Beetle and Ladybug? Ladybugs (called ladybirds in some countries) are a family of beetles that includes the Asian Lady Beetle (Harmonia axyridis), among others. The Asian lady beetle has large white 'cheeks' and a b

I wonder if the Asian Lady Beetle has spread to Florida, since our climate isn't too much different than that of Texas? We have seen a huge increase in the amount of Asian roaches, which look a lot like the German roaches, except that they prefer to stay outside in the trees and bushes and not so much inside your house!

@nanette64 I imagine most are hitchhiking rides on cargo vessels as they sail from Asian ports tot he Americas. It would be pretty difficult to stop such a migration of critters when we are so dependent on the trade of goods and services from all over the world!
What makes it harder for people like you and I who live in the climates we do is the fact that they are the perfect places for many of theses critters from around the world to survive and thrive!

@moffittjc That's how everything winds up over here that we don't want.

It is possible @moffittjc . Nowadays it's hard to tell where all these critters are coming from and how they're getting here.

This invasion has been going on in the Chicago area for over 20 years. They are just awful, and yup they sure do bite.

I wish I knew whose brilliant idea it was to introduce them into the US @fishtiger58 . I'd strap them down to the ground and let the beetles have their lunch.

@nanette64 I agree, I hardly ever see the lady bugs that are native to here anymore.

@fishtiger58 I just hope the Asian variety isn't killing off the good ones.

@nanette64 I really like them and don't want to see them hurt which makes it a little difficult to get them out of the house.

Oh yeah @crazyhorseladycx , I've had my share of wasps, fire ants and attack of over 100 bees. I've probably got one heck of an immune system.

I never heard of these before, they seems so cute but I understand that the biting must be terrifying.

Me too @Kandae11 . When I whip out the fly-swatter, the cats think I'm after them instead of the bugs. LOL

How strange, I had heard that ladybugs bite but I didn't know that they weren't the real ladybugs.

Not only do they bite, they stink. Thank goodness this year we didn't have any banging down the doors and windows.
