In the 1800 and early 1900's the fisher declined in numbers due to trapping because of their lush fur and bushy tails. The mammal, similar to the weasel, is making a comeback in the forest of Mount Rainier National Park. It had been missing from this area for severn decades. Here is the story:
The elusive weasel-like mammal poked its head out of the wooden crate, glanced around and quickly darted into the thick forest of Mount Rainier National Park — returning to a landscape where it had been missing for seven decades. One by one, 10 Pacific fis

I searched for some pictures, and it is true that they look a lot like weasels. Although they are useful animals, weasels are considered harmful in France, and they are far to be endangered. It is nice to have reintroduced the fisher, that I discover today with your post, in its natural environment.

Thanks for sharing the link. I wonder how many more species will be endangered because of man's folly. Hopefully, we learn our lesson soon enough.

I don't like trapping for a living. I know it is a have to situation in Alaska and more north, but I don't like it.

I love to eat fish. I think they are way healthier than meat or poultry. This is great news.
