Ratings on the right on this site?

I see theres a + - ! on the right side of peoples posts, other than your own, I know thats how you decide if its a possitive, negative, or warning. But is there a reason why people should do that? do you get paid for that as well? is there really any use for this other than your own thoughts on how a person replies. any answers will be helpful.

It helps out in the earnings. You should rate positive whenever possible. I rate all the discussions I respond to, and rate all the people that respond to my discussions. It all works out in the end, somehow.

thanks for letting me know, I will think about this now when I view what others write in my topics. maybe I wont just skip over it now.
