Catch 'em 'Fore They Get Away -
Today is right about at the middle of December - almost, but not quite the official moment when Winter arrives at our place. The weather turned onto its warm side - almost 45 degrees (F.) out there in the "Back-40," and the sun was bright as well. (Probably because all of the skeeters have disappeared. They don't like cold weather any more than do I.)
There are yet some of those nice, ripe oranges hanging on the orange tree - the one that sports those small but great-tasting Satsuma-type oranges. Today is "Last Orange Pickin' Day," so declared my farmer-type bride. She's the one that looks at an empty spot on the ground and, all of a sudden, a plant of some sort appears there. (Now you now why I get to worrying whenever I catch her looking over at me...)
Maybe I should quit worrying about such things and begin encouraging that gal to look at my wallet once in a while and see if she can grow some green stuff inside it. Well, that's a thought, isn't it?

That's a nice orange tree. I haven't had much luck with oranges the past few years. I always looked forward to winter because then the honey sweet tangerines
appeared in the stores but not for the past 3 years. The oranges I've bought are not sweet, even slightly sour, and so many of them seem dried out. An orange should break apart easily and cleanly when you peel it but not here the past few years, they tear into the next segment and it's a mess.
I would love to have some Honey Sweet Tangerines. Or some sweet, juicy oranges. But I guess I'm out of luck here in AZ.

@dragon54u - Yes. It is a nice little orange tree that grows nice little oranges. One year there were really TWO crops of the things. Unusual. One of the things that caught my eyes when I spent lots of time working in Arizona - primarily in the Phoenix area - were the large numbers of orange trees up and down the streets. Made me wonder why no one seemed to be picking the things for home consumption. Someone then told me that they were pretty much inedible - "Too bitter," folks said. They surely were good looking oranges even if no one would eat them. -Gus-
