New book series to read.

I have bought the ebook of the first Sookie Stackhouse/Southern Vampire books. This is the book series that the show True Blood is based on. I am not a huge fan of vamp books, but I figured it would be kind of fun to see how true to the book they stay. I figure after reading the Twilight series in high school, this vamp series has got to be better. Right? Has anyone read the Charlaine Harris series of books?
