Music Trivia

Where do I begin? There is so much that I could write about music and its history. The information about thousands of musical artists and singers would fill many books. I tried to find some things that are not so commonly known. Let’s see if you know these. Did you know that Liberace, like Elvis, also had a twin who died at birth? I don’t think that is very well-known. Having twins myself, I’m always looking for twin facts. This one surprised me. How about the “most recorded musician in history?” This fact also surprised me. “The Nightingale of India” Lata Mangeshkar, over fifty years ago, recorded over 50,000 songs in 20 different Indian languages. I doubt if anyone will ever top that feat, don’t you? Did you know that Mick Jagger studied at the “prestigious London School of Economics” BEFORE he became a rock star? Another surprise for me. Only one of the original members of the “Beach Boys” had ever surfed. It was the drummer, Dennis Wilson, who later drowned while swimming. I didn’t know that. Here’s a rather interesting fact. You might expect that the song with the most sheet music sales would be “Happy Birthday” or “The Star Spangled Banner,” but you would be wrong. The song which sold over half a million copies in its first few weeks in 1923, was “Yes, We Have No Bananas” by Frank Silver and Irving Cohn. How many of these facts did you know??

I knew some of them, being a big Elvis fan, I knew about his twin. The most surprising ones were the beach boys and the bananas facts. I found the bananas one especially interesting, my twins love bananas, and I sing the "Yes we have no bananas" song to them often.
