How do you feel about Ouija Boards?

I was't aware of this until Christmas Day, but my niece has been playing around with Ouija Boards. As far as I know it's ones she has made herself, but either way it creeps me out.
I don't particularly trust them, and my own opinion is that they are evil. To find out that she has been messing around with them here? It gives me the heebie jeebies.
It's not something I can personally halt her from doing. Even her own parents seem to be okay with it - albeit somewhat reluctantly so. My brother in law, her dad, mentioned that he wanted her to watch a documentary he saw on them - and I hope if she does so she'll turn away from them.
Whether or not they are dangerous - or the claims made about them are real - I don't want to tempt fate.
What are your impressions on them?

@silvermist You are right. It's not been too long ago that it was released.

A ouija board is a board with numbers, letters, and the words and yes and no. THe idea is to communicate with the spirit world, but it has gotten a lot more bad reputation than good.

The Ouija board is scary. I have had weird things happen. Also, I have heard that spirits will stick to the board and can go home with people. Noting very good have ever come from using one that I have ever heard.

@ScribbledAdNauseum .....Kids are growing up quickly now days. Doing things at earlier ages. Yes, the ouija board is not for youngsters who are experienced in the world.

I agree. I am not sure how reliable a homemade board would be, but I can only hope that my brother in law and sister won't buy her a real one.
Did I mention she's ony 10? I feel like that's way too young to be so interested in things like that.

My impression is that they're a hoax... but I've never had the opportunity to play with one for real.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Well I don't believe in the supernatural at all.. so of course I would think they're a hoax. I'm too old to be playing with them anyway so I guess I'll never know!

@katsmeow1213 I've seen too much to not believe in the supernatural myself.

They may be a hoax, but I'll trust my instincts on this one. Regardless, I'll steer clear.

I have seen the evil they are first hand. My husband was choked when using one and things were thrown at me. We will never mess with one again. They are real and dangerous.

I am not sure how they came to be in existence, but it's not something I want to mess around with for sure. I am sorry your husband was choked but I'm glad neither of you are using one anymore.

I am going to try to do what I can. She's here now, locked away in the room she has here. I need to gather information on it and try to get her to see how scary they can be. She's stubborn so it won't be easy.

@paigea I know that they were very popular years ago. I don't know, maybe it's an irrational fear but I still won't risk it myself.

@ScribbledAdNauseum I found it was just silly. People pushing the pointer around. Everyone had one in their toy closet when I was growing up. Nothing bad ever happened

@ScribbledAdNauseum It's one of those things that can go either way. Better to be safe than sorry.

Don´t play with them at all. Will not even go near one anymore they give the chills and the creeps. Who knows what can happen with a gadget like that? You can invite something or someone into your Home and bam disaster. Nothing good ever comes out of them for me.

Stay safe and don´t let them use it if you can help it. Somewhere I read about what to do with the Ouija where to keep it safe and stored something like that.. I don´t know really what I read could be a load of rubbish really. All I know is I never mess with what I don´t know about.

Yes, things like that can attach themselves to the person or to the home and it's not something I want to risk.

Personally, I don't really know the consequence of playing ouija boards. But I heard some tales about it. I heard about the 3 sisters who used to play Spirit of the Glass. I know them personally as we are living in the same village. I heard from other people in our village even some of my neighbors, these sisters stopped playing it because the spirit who entered inside the glass was that of Satan. So from that time on, they stopped playing it.
I also used to joint this game. I even played alone but it was only once and I never did it again. It happened when I was still in high school. I was in a dim room and it was still about 3:00 o'clock in the afternoon when I decided to play the Spirit of the Glass alone. When I was about to start, I felt something creepy and I remembered that I was alone in the room and it was very dim. Silence was deafening. I felt afraid so I did not proceed with the game. I went out of the house and played with my cousins who were outside. I think it's not really a good game and our children should avoid playing with it.

Yes, I agree. Anything like that can be ver dangerous to mess with and you can't truly be sure that you are going to be safe. Listening to how you feel is a good idea, and I'm glad you stopped.

i don't know anyone who owned or used ouija boards. i've only seen them on tv shows, but have read about them.
it was here in mylot that i learned about actual personal experiences with it. here is the link to one member's discussion last october that received various responses from mylotters about their past experiences with ouija boards.
I had one; I think it was when my daughter was small, and we used it some. It was fun, getting those 'messages' when the planchette or disc seemed to move...

They are personally not my favorite but at the same time Im not all that scared of them either. But I will say that it is not game or toy and if you dont know what your doing you can open the door to some things you might not know how to handle.

She (my niece) is treating it like a toy, I am almost certain. Her dad - as much as he spoke on it - didn't seem to care to stress the point too far. In fact, I felt as if he went from not allowing her to use it - to being okay with it within one sentence.
I wish I could forbid her from using them here - but this isn't my house and so all I can do is pray and hope that no ill comes from it.
