There are some occurrences which are beyond your control. There is a monkey menace in our area and every now and then monkeys keep coming uninvited to our houses. You would have seen wild monkeys who make lots of destructions; they enter in the open houses, open refrigerators and grab eatables, they destroy plants and flowers ruthlessly and what not and it is difficult to scare them when they are in big groups. Yesterday some rowdy and wild monkeys were taking a round in our area, when I was not at home. They went on the roof top of our house destructed many potted plants and above all threw a hard brick on my parked car. Their innocent action of throwing brick on the car damaged rooftop and front windscreen of my car. When I reached home and saw it I was dumbstruck. I said – why me?
I had no option but to curse the unknown simians who unnecessarily created a trouble for me. Now I will have to take my car to the workshop and will have to get the entire windscreen replaced. Though, the car is insured, yet I will have to spend some amount of money from my pocket to get it repaired. Has any such thing ever happened with you?

Yes, some wild monkeys (who do not stay in forest areas) keep coming in the residential areas. Authorities do little to catch them and send them to forest areas. They are destructive and make us feel terrified when they come in group in the buildings.

@magallon - Yes, it is really terrifying to see them in groups and they sometimes try to attack you. Unfortunately some incidents have happened where two old residents die because of ruckus made by monkeys in the residential areas.

Oh my gosh! I have seen documentaries on monkeys living in towns, causing destruction and such - but I had no idea that you actually lived this
! I cannot even imagine. We do not have wild monkeys here, but suddenly all the neighbors I do not care for do not seem so bad
. . . they drive me nuts and I wish they would just stay away from me . . . but at least their silly words do not cause destruction and these types of burdens. I wonder what they can do for the monkeys - I'm sure they just want a place to live too - perhaps to relocate them?2 people like this

@much2say - Yes, monkeys are more dangerous and pesky than squirrels.
It seems that they think that they get better choice of food when they come to residential areas.
Of course, they would have no idea that they damage our plants/flowers and flower pots, they just go around doing their business.
So next time when monkeys come to my areas, I would ask them to go to your neighbors house, so that monkeys could teach them a lesson.

@dpk262006 I suppose looking around and scavenging is what they would do in in their normal environment. And yes, human life styles just must be mire interesting to them
.
Oh I would love for those monkeys to pay a visit to my neighbors! I hope they can teach my neighbors to stop monkeying around
!!

@dpk262006 I fantasize having monkeys around . . . but I imagine they can be pesky . . . probably more than the common squirrels that play around our neighborhood.
No one wants to be a monkey catcher? I suppose the monkeys came for the food . . . the food and supplies in the neighborhood may be much more "interesting" than what they find in trees or at least the forest area. I assume they have no idea that they are causing damage to anyone's property - they just do what they do.
I'd welcome monkeys more than my current neighbors
. You're right, my neighbors don't cause damage in that way, but oh they sure do exhaust my mind
. If the monkeys there want to come here, I can direct them to the perfect houses

I am so sorry, I know that there is always a small amount that we must pay, even if the rest is covered by the insurance. We have no monkeys here, but I remember years ago that a falling rock from the mountain damaged our windscreen, that we had to change.

@LadyDuck So this kind of incidents or say accidents happened more than once with you. The incident you have described also appears a freak one. I did not know that you cannot drive your vehicle with a broken windscreen in Switzerland, thanks for sharing.

@LadyDuck - Yes, you are right that a broken windscreen could blur our vision, specially during night driving. Also, you have rightly pointed out that in case of snow fall it could froze and break all of a sudden.
I think in case of heavy rain, even water could leak from a broken wind screen, so it is better to get it replaced.

@dpk262006 A broken windscreen is considered dangerous, first because you cannot see well through it and, in case of froze, it can suddenly broke and hurt people.

Maybe in a previous life, you have accidentally damaged this monkey's kart?

Yes, I would have committed many sins in my previous births and damaging their cart would have been one of the sins.

Yes, you are right that it is hard to think of solution, as we just cannot talk to monkeys.
They also need space and food to survive. It is for the authorities concerned to make arrangements for their rehabilitation.

Is it prohibited to shoot these monkeys? Are your neighbors being attacked too?

I am not sure if one could shoot monkeys. But generally people are kind and do not want to kill monkeys straight away. Moreover, one cannot keep a pistol/revolver with him without licence, which is not easy to get.
Yes, they attack every house to get some food for themselves, when they are on rampage.

@dpk262006 That's really dangerous and people need to be protected somehow. I was referring to an airgun which may not need a license to have.

@dpk262006 Ah okay :) Everything is clear to me now. The only thing is - it's the humans who are in danger but then the law is the law.

Oh i am sorry to hear that , my friend . I hope the damage will be repaired at the soonest .
So , what does the authorities do to stop these monkeys from attacking the houses . Something should be done to stop them .

Yes, I am also hoping that replacement cost will get covered in my car insurance polity. It is strange that similar thing happened in your neighborhood. I think people should be careful while placing tiles on balconies or roof top as winds or monkey or even birds could throw it away and it could cause damage to even human beings.

@pgntwo It means owners of the houses which have slopped roofs must be careful about maintenance aspect and they should regularly carry out a check if their tiles are well placed or not, otherwise, flying tiles could turn out to be dangerous.

@dpk262006 this is true. Most houses this far north have sloped rooves, covered in specially-made roof tiles, with a row of special ridge tiles at the apex of the roof. It is often the ridge tiles that get loosened over time, and blow off in strong winds...

Those monkey were more than naught teenagers because they were not going to listen to us or were not going to get scared, as they were in the large group. I am sorry to hear that deer at your place did the damage to your plants and flowers. When deer or even squirrels damage plants/flowers, I feel very bad because it takes lots of time to flowers to bloom.

It really hurts in heart when this kind of event happens, yet I would suggest you to keep calm and get the car fixed as soon as possible.
I also used to live in such neighborhood. once I was away. monkeys entered into my room through balcony, taken out fruits from Refrigerator and vandalized entire room. Initially it looked like a robbery. but then i realized this was done by monkeys.
As I was on Rent at that place. I changed place. (my kids are small and I really dont want to get them into trouble).
