New Year, New . . . ?

Many people make a list of things every new year called "Resolutions". A list of positive things they would like to achieve throughout the year. For a majority of people the list will consist of eating less, drinking less, swearing less. . . basically doing less of bad habits one wants to get rid of. If this is your kind of list, then shouldn't it be called New Years "Regulations" ? Because you are basically sentencing yourself into a system of restricting your addictive behavior in hopes of ridding bad habits towards a goal of self satisfaction and healing. To me "resolutions", is coming to terms and accepting things for what they are. An act of closure to symbolize you moving on from the depths of where you were. Giving yourself a new start, a do-over, a mulligan, a fresh perspective. What ever the reason, to all those who make lists, power to you and good luck towards your goal(s) of self resilience. I call 'em goals, and usually just stick with the same ones yearly. I wanna exercise more and cut back on the soda, but I didn't accomplish that in 2016, so 2017 is another year to try.

@Plethos I love soda so it's not as easy, so I just limit myself on how much I can have a day, and eventually I'll be limiting on how much I can have a week. Thanks!

I'm starting to think that "resolution" is a fancy word for "promise" because that's what it basically is, a promise to yourself to do something.

I might make 'resolutions' but I have trouble remembering them so it all goes out the window by February.

Exactly, why does it have to be at the start of the Year? Just start when ever, date doesn't matter.

I used to make them every year, about five per year. And I stuck to, on average..... none.

well resolutions really means to resolve (to make up ones mind) to do or achieve something...so i think the word fits. But either way...self improvement is a good thing no matter how or when one choses to do it right?
