It was a Crime Scene

In November, a young friend of ours died suddenly in the bathroom in the recreation area across the street from us. I rushed over when I found out that she fell in there. I held her hand and called her name. She made a noise each time. I felt her pulse. It was thready at best. Then I could not find it. I wondered why she had no pulse. By that time, rescue came in the building. The paramedics ordered me out. They came out and said she passed. I tried to go back in and one said, "You have to stay out. This is a crime scene." I wondered what the crime was. Someone explained that all unexplained deaths are a crime scene until otherwise proven. They strung up yellow crime tape around the whole area. They told showering women to hurry and kicked some poor lady out of the laundromat. Two hours later, everything was returned to normal. But, it will never be normal again. It affected everyone living here and they are still talking about it. Never take anyone for granted. They might not be there when you turn around. Has your life ever turned into a crime scene?

I'm sure the memory of that day will be forever ingrained in your brain. It certainly would make you look at that area differently every time you passed by it.

@moffittjc The part where she was is still Out of Order. Don't know why, they just locked it down. More investigation planned???

I can imagine this would have had a profound effect on people. And no, thankfully, it hasn't happened to me.

It happens in the twinkling of an eye. One minute, I was in bed with my son yelling for me to get up. Minutes later, I was holding her hand and wondering where her pulse went.

@JudyEv When you have a nightmare, you wake up and find it was not true. We have not woken up.

Oh my goodness that must have been so hard on you. I would have been panicking the whole time, heart racing. I don't think the hurt emotions would set in at first. . . I'm sorry you had to go through that.

I don't know that you will either. I hope you will at least be okay with it so it doesn't bother you in your daily routine.

@jhechorain There is nothing we can do about it. There is no getting her back alive. We have to learn to carry on anyway. But, the sadness will always be there.

When I was a kid I lived in a war zone. So we had plenty of deaths in the neighborhood but without that yellow tape.

@Madshadi I am so sorry. No one should have to live with people being killed like that.

I can imagine the memory of that moment will stay with you forever. Did they ever find out exactly what happened to your young neighbor?

It was a pulmonary embolism which no one knew she had. She had other medical problems so everyone was shocked by that verdict.

@DWDavis It is sad but when it happens, it is unbelievable. I still have trouble believing it even though I talked to the paramedics, the sheriff, and the medical examiner. It is all like a dream only I did not wake up.

@akalinus if you follow my last discussion, you will hear about the most recent, and while they didn't put up the crime tape, the police were keeping people out of the room.

Fortunately it never has. So was your friend the victim of a crime, or was it an accident?

No, Dearheart, my life hasn't always been peaceful and quiet, but so far, it has never been a crime scene... or at least not to that extent. I am truly sorry that your life has ever been a crime scene.

Thanks DE, I'm sorry too. A crime scene is not a good place to be in the middle of. All the neighbors are standing around gawking and who knows what kind of stories they were formulating in their imaginations? More emergency vehicles keep arriving and deputies everywhere. Not fun at all.
