TODAY: Epiphany or Three Kings' Day

Philippines
January 6, 2017 1:29pm CST
Per definition-- Epiphany is the manifestation of Christ to the Gentiles as represented by the Magi (Matthew 2:1–12). Also called Theophany or Three Kings' Day. it is a Christian feast day that celebrates the revelation of God in his Son as human in Jesus Christ. for 2 years, i learned that they usually take down the Christmas decorations TODAY; on Three Kings' Day. The traditional date for the feast is January 6. However, since 1970, the celebration is held in some countries on the Sunday after January 1. as far as i can remember, the Epiphany is on the First Sunday of January.. but we normally take down the Christmas decorations after on the 2nd of January.. we still have the decorations on.. since tomorrow is the house cleaning then i think they will clean up and put down the decorations at the same time then open the last gifts left for the residents.. I have heard that the Christmas decorations need to be taken down by 6th Jan too. Some places have had the decorations up since late November here this year, as the the 25th of December was a Sunday. It is long overdue to take these down today.

@therealmaryyy Somewhere between 2nd and 3rd Sunday of advent we buy our real tree. Most decorations have gone up in the preceeding week, starting on 1st December with the Advent calendar - a treat a day for the youngest, he's only 7.

We celebrate the Epiphany on the 6th of January here in Switzerland and I know that it's the same in Italy. Today I put off the Christmas decorations.

I'm not sure about the rest of the US, but here in the south some people celebrate January 6 as Old Christmas. Generations ago it was more celebrated than December 25, but now most just leave their decorations up until today.

Is Old Christmas similar to Epiphany? Christmas and New Year is the most celebrated holidays in my country, Philippines.

@therealmaryyy I haven't heard about the celebration called Epiphany, although it migt be in some other US states. I don't know the origin of Old Christmas here, but it's not observed now very much, at least around here.
