Have you won a contest(s) before?

Hey everyone. Just wondering if some of you have ever won a contest/contests before? If so, what kind of things have you won (if you don't mind sharing). Personally, I have won a few things... Mostly, though, what comes to mind (off the top of my head) is some amounts in gift cards, from this contest that gets run yearly here in my part of Canada, and the grand prize is a trip (though I have never won that), it's quite nice! I have had good luck with that contest! Image by Pixabay

As a child I loved anything to do with fire engines. I was runner-up in a competition run by my local fire brigade. It involved answering questions and designing an implement for firefighters to use. I met the Mayor and got my picture in the paper. Part of the prize was having tea with the firemen but they were called out on an emergency soon after it started! In later life I won a lot of humour-writing contests on TV, in newspapers and in magazines. Prizes included cheques, book tokens, sweatshirts and cinema tickets.

That must have been great, winning a contest like that, as a child. Very neat! Sounds like you have won quite a few things, that's great :)

@asfarasiknow I do believe I have heard of something along those lines before, matter of fact.

@mawdest There are some 'compers' for whom it is almost a business. They collect entry forms all over the place and enter huge numbers of contests every year, winning a number of prizes.

Many years ago, I had a small country music band. We won first place in a talent contest with a song I wrote and performed. All we won, though was a plaque. We did win a local radio contest and performed at Busch Gardens, a theme park in Virginia.

That's awesome! That is too bad they only gave you a plaque, but still quite cool. Wow, you got to perform at a theme park? That must have been a big audience and a very surreal experience! :)

@mawdest Well, it was at one of the outdoor stages, so people would listen as they walked by.

@1creekgirl Ah I see, that's still very cool though. The extent of what I have ever played at with the couple of short-lived bands I have been in.. Were a coffee house, a talent show, another show in front of people at the school, and a show in front of a bunch of people at one of the local parks. I haven't played a live gig for about 6 or 7 years now, though. I would love to get back in to playing music, more and more, if I could!

I am constantly winning books. That seems to be the only thing I can win. I have won a couple of gift cards in the past, tickets to a concert that wasn't in my city so I couldn't go to, a free pass to Horseshoe Adventure Park (which had us paying the price of 3 other tickets), and a Febreze gift box. I'm still waiting for that big win of a trip or washer & dryer.

That's great! Good for you :) I hope for the best, that you win a trip or washer & dryer! :) By the way, funny that you mention Horseshoe Adventure Park, I live fairly close to there, I used to snowboard at Horseshoe resort too but I have not snowboarded for about 10 years or so.

I won twice on Facebook for answering a right answer of a pizza restaurant and received $25 voucher :) But that was it.. I don't answer contests much, good luck to all the ones you enter.

That's awesome, can't go wrong with pizza :) Fair enough, contests are hard enough to win to begin with (typically). Thanks Michelle, I appreciate that! :)

@mawdest I won a 'free' holiday to Spain in a competition long time ago but had to get myself from Ireland to London, pay the insurance and other stuff so it worked out cheaper to buy a holiday myself and forget the prize.

Very nice, Spain is a lovely place, I was there for 3 weeks as a teenager in high school, under an exchange program. I would love to go back one day, if given the chance :)

One year I voted for the Major League Baseball All Star Game players a bunch of times and won a Colorado Rockies hat.

Nice! I would love to earn me a Toronto Blue Jays hat, if they were to do such a promotion/contest.

When I was in my early twenties, I won $500.00 on a radio contest. It was a lot of money then.

Oh, wow, very nice! I would say 500 dollars is still a significant amount of money today too! :)

I have won a few contests. One was when I wrote for the now defunct Helium. Anywhere from 100.00 to $30, several times. Those were the good old days. Oh and I did win a beauty contest in my younger days, so long ago I can't remember what the prize was.

I usually am not good at winning anything. I did once win a stuffed lion and I love him.

Yes. In high school. First place in a contest of original tales about Halloween.

Very neat! Do you remember what the collection of tales of Halloween were called? Just out of curiosity..
