Relieved and Disappointed at the Same Time

The big snow storm we were expecting here in eastern NC seems to have petered out, leaving us with less than an inch of accumulation here in my area. After a cold, rainy night, the pups woke me up about 6am to take them out for potties. At that time it was just below freezing and a steady sleet was falling. The back porch and yard were covered in a thin layer of white.
The last predictions I saw before heading for bed last night were for 6 to 8 inches (15-20cm) of snow accumulation before the storm moved out. They only missed by about 7.5 inches. Still, it was enough to cover the roads with a dangerous layer of ice and sleet. The temperatures for today through Monday are not expected to rise above freezing so travel will be a problem around here for the next few days.
No word has come from the school system as to whether schools will be delayed or open Monday. It will depend on the road conditions and the temperatures Monday morning. If it is too cold, our buses won't run because, mechanically, they don't operate properly when the temps hit the single digits (-10 to -20 (C)).
North and west of our area they received more snow and sleet than we did. Those kids will probably be getting a few more days off from school.
Were any of y'all in the path of this storm? Did you get much snow/sleet/ice from it?

No snow here! Lol, not that I'm surprised by that at all. It is cold here though.

That's nothing with snow. A dusting. When we get it we get it hit. And in NYC they don't just close the schools for a little snow. But I know what you mean about dangerous driving. The roads here get just as slick. I need a warmer climate. Maybe the west coast for me.

@inertia4 I went to college and lived in Springfield, Mass for a number of years. They are no strangers to snow, but when the flakes started falling it was as if all the rules about stop lights went out the window and in short order the whole downtown area was gridlocked.

It only takes a little snow to shut us down. We don't have the removal equipment in the numbers it takes to clear any but the major highways in a decent amount of time. And no one has snow tires. Combine that with very little experience driving in winter conditions and you've got a recipe for disaster.

Most years we don't miss any days due to snow. Some years are an exception, such as last year when we lost 9. Tropical storms cause us as much trouble as snow. Hurricane Matthew already cost us 8 days of instruction this year. We don't need snow to rob us of any more.

I am in the Chicago area and we have only had one snow fall that left snow on the ground. We currently have no snow on the ground and I'm not complaining. I hope you all stay safe.

@DWDavis I have lived here all my life, and it seems to go in cycles, some winters are heavy with snow and others are not. Seems no rhyme or reason for it. But I'm not complaining, I can do without the snow

Glad we do not live in an area where it snows that much or often. And you can keep the Cold. We have been cold enough here even without snow.

We have tons, so feel free to come and get some!
Some stores and restaurants were closed over the weekend and schools here will be closed.
Just a few more weeks until it is warm on a daily basis.

We got more ice than snow here in eastern NC, but not sure if we'll get much more. Be careful on those icy roads.

@DWDavis I plan to stay in until the roads get better. I was supposed to work today at my part-time job, but it wasn't worth sliding into a ditch.

Not that storm, but the west coast version blew in from California with freezing rain one minute and heavy snow the next. We are getting a mixture this morning at about 29 degrees. The roads are like skating rinks, I'm sure.

We got three to four inches a couple days ago. It's sunny and 31° today, a virtual heat wave after the last couple days. Some of the snow is even melting. Another day in Colorado!

We didn't get it yet. It is suppose to hit overnight tonight into tomorrow. I hope we are as lucky as you were there but I have my doubts.

We've noticed a few flakes drifting down since lunch. There is no significant snowfall in our forecast. We know that can change, but so far the snow has been minimal this winter.
