A Pig near Bodensee

I came across this photo a day or two ago and thought you might enjoy it. It was at the entrance to a very big caravan park on Bodensee (Lake Constance) on the Rhine River in Germany. The caravan park was huge with its own very comprehensive supermarket, a hotel, fancy restaurant and a number of permanent residents. I thought the pig was very cute. We often came across some lovely ornaments of these types in the various caravan parks that we stayed in.

I think that pigs are considered lucky charms in Germany, I know that this is the case for Switzerland.

@LadyDuck First time to know that pigs are lucky

@MALUSE This sounds sensible. I remember that I read that pigs are associated with good luck, because to possess plenty of pigs was a sign of wealth and prosperity in the Middle Ages. Their owners would never go hungry.

@LadyDuck This makes sense. We don't regard pigs as lucky in Australia.

He certainly could. He'd be a very weighty little piggy!

Neat.. When it warms up some I will definitely hunt for a few of those horses I mentioned and post a few pictures of them.. The first time we traveled into Buffalo, NY there is a statue of a buffalo right on the thruway.. it is life size and when we first saw it for a split second I thought it was real and it scared me, until I realized it was a statue..

@JudyEv Boston had some great statues of Paul Revere and Sam Adams and one about the Irish famine. It was really cool..

@katsmeow1213 Ireland has a lot about the famine but some are really confronting. Gaunt bodies, haggard expressions - all totally understandable but not comforting.

@katsmeow1213 I suppose I just didn't expect it. We didn't have much travel experience back then.

Ok, I've changed my mind .... I'd rather have a pig than a cow, would be fitting for this community since a lot of the food available here is pork based.

Well, in that case, why not have a cow, pig, sheep, chicken, donkey and horse @JudyEv I'd love to do that.

Why choose? Why not have one of each? They would be company for each other. :)

You're too big. You'd look under-pigged! (You might already know but the terms over-horsed or underhorsed are used when a horse is too small or too big for the rider - hence under-pigged.)
