Yes, again! School has been cancelled for tomorrow due to the icy conditions on some of the rural roadways in the county. Icy roads mean buses cannot run safely. If the buses cannot run, we cannot have school. In the long run, this means another makeup day down the road. I made the most of today's ice/snow day by finishing up two lessons in my writing course, adding more to my new story idea, responding and commenting here on myLot, and going bowling. Okay, so I didn't really go bowling. My missus decided we needed to get active, so she had me hook up the Kinect to the X-Box, and we played 3 games of virtual bowling. I won the first game, but she cleaned my clock in the second two. It turns out she's very good at virtual bowling. After a day of telecommuting, my missus needed something to help her unwind. Beating me at bowling 2 games out of 3 did the trick. And, no, I didn't let her win. If you got snowed, or iced, over the weekend, has the sun been kind and thawed you out yet?

The days off at school because of too much cold or heat can be resolved if we start to do online learning or online classrooms. Nowadays, almost everyone has got a computer and internet connection at home. Maybe, our grand children will learn that way in the future.

Sadly, in the community my school serves, only half the children have a computer with reliable internet at home. My school is in an economically distressed area and nearly 3/4 of our students receive free lunch. Perhaps, in the future, this will improve and all students will be able to access online learning.

@Meramar In some cities here it is a municipal service. The problem is the cable and telecomm companies try to keep cities and towns from offering it because then they can't overcharge people for it.

@DWDavis Nowadays, access to internet should be already a public service when it's for learning and working.

Oh, the snow is almost entirely melted. But we did have wind gusts of up to 100 MPH all over the area today.

What's up with the Hurricane Force winds? Does that happen often in the winter up there?

@teamfreak16 It's a good think climate change is a hoax, or weather like we all seem to be having this winter would get me worried. *takes tongue out of cheek*

@DWDavis - Not really. Once in a great while, and I can't recall the last time it was this bad. Apparently the entire state got hit today, but our county was the worst.

I've seen on social media where the northerners are making fun of us Southerners for cancelling school due to the cold weather. But, they so conveniently forget that it is they who cancel school every year because of the heat. Most of their schools don't have air conditioning, so they have to cancel classes when it gets too hot (which is only going to get worse due to global warming). At least we build our schools with air conditioning AND heat, so who's the real dummies in this situation? Of course, icy roads has nothing to do with hot or cold temps inside the schools, but they are idiots if they think we should try to drive buses full of precious cargo in hazardous conditions.

When I was still in exile in New England, I remember them cancelling school when the forecast called for an icy mix or snow, before the first flake fell, so I don't take their ribbing too seriously because I know the idea that all northerners soldier though to school in the worst winter weather is a myth.

@DWDavis I think it is all good-natured ribbing. Northerners and Southerners have a fondness for making fun of each other. At least we're not killing each other anymore in a civil war!

These are a lot of fun because you have to get up and go through the motions to activate the characters. Bowling is low-key, but some of them get you moving and jumping about. Only I'm not so good at the jumping about these days.

Our schools are closed again tomorrow. The roads in some parts of the county are still to ice covered for the buses to run.

Not yet. We had a few days yet during the year we can use for makeup days. But if we get another winter storm, we will be in school most of June.

No it has been too cold to thaw but they are calling for rain on Wednesday so that will take care of some of it.

We haven't any rain in the forecast, but temps are expected to reach 70F/22C on Friday, warming up gradually every day between now and then. I'm sure the snow and ice won't survive that.
