hot or cold?

Given a choice between lying on a beach in a very hot country or standing at a bus stop waiting for a bus {which never seems to come} in a very cold country, I would always pick the latter option.
Always.
I'm the kind of person who proclaims, Nah, it's just right! when all around me other folk are grumbling about how cold they are. That's not to say I don't feel the cold ... I do, oh my goodness, I do. But I much prefer being {too} cold to being {too} hot.
It's very easy to warm up when you're cold, and then stay warm. A nice cup of tea, a couple of snuggly blankets, the warmth from the skin of another person, the fur of a purring cat, a few star jumps, a hot water bottle, a microwaveable Bagpuss, a woolly hat, a thermal vest, central heating, a roaring fire ...
But it's far more difficult to cool down when hot, and remain cooled down. Once you get to your underwear there are really no more layers to remove {in public, anyway}. Fans, air conditioning, ice-cream, cold beers, flip flops showing off naked tootsies ... they offer only temporary relief.
But that's just me. I would choose Iceland over Morocco as a holiday destination. I would rather not wear a jumper under my coat and be cold on the walk down, than wear a jumper and be too warm when I reach the place I'm going to.
I must be descended from people from a very, very cold land.

I see you caught that too. I wasn't going to say anything, but think I'm much too intrigued to find out how she came to think it's acceptable.3 people like this

@ScribbledAdNauseum No shame that woman! No matter how much distress she may be causing to others it's all about her comfort!!

I've been in both very cold weather and very hot weather. I'd choose the cold one any day.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Yeah, I'm not even too sure if there's any correlation at all between what season one's born and his/her preference to the climate...

Hmm, kind of interesting isn't it? That they were born in the winter time, and thus aren't bothered by the cold.
On another note, I was born in the summer but can't stand being too warm.

part of the reason i don't fantasize about moving to a cold country is the layers upon layers you have to put on, from head to hands to toes, before heading out, and making sure you don't lose them. plus the fear of slipping on ice, mini avalanches, and shoveling. but yes, i had an officemate who said the same thing. maybe he belongs to a cold country, too.

@Poppylicious i like it best when it's sunny and windy here. not beach like, but enough breeze to lift your hair as you walk down the street.

My ideal would be a bright autumn day. A chill in the air, maybe some frost on the ground, crunchy leaves beneath my feet and the need for a lovely cosy coat. If there's snow I'd want it to be constant ... none of that slushy, icy stuff, just blankets of pure fresh snow. :)

@poppylicious I prefer cold weather too if the option is to be sweaty. I used to live lots of heat; I spent my childhood in Africa but can no longer tolerate crushing heat. I don't see the point in it.

and some are the opposite. they don't mind cold most of their life, but prefer heat as they get older.

Yes, there is no point in it, is there! It's just stupid.

My thoughts exactly! I would have to sleep all day if I lived in too hot a climate.

@Poppylicious And sleeping don't really help either because you tend to get a little frustrated and miserable when you don't know what to do with all that excess heat.

I prefer heat to the cold - dislike shivering,, often in freezing blasts of air, water, slippery conditions, etc

Oh, I dislike shivering, but find it more preferable to sweating profusely!

Being too hot causes other problems as well. You have to drink more to stay hydrated, which means you've got to visit the bathroom more. What if you're waiting for a bus, taxi, train, or important call?
Yes I would much rather be cold than too hot. Of course I wouldn't want to be in a situation where I was either of the extremes (too hot or too cold).

@Poppylicious I wouldn't know the difference. It seems I am always going to the bathroom.

I find that I pee more when I'm colder! No idea why.

I agree. I would rather be too cold than too hot. at least when it's cold you can just bundle up more and you'll get warm when it's hot you can put on to much or to little and still burn up and I don't like sweating and I get real unComfortable when it's hot.
