Never Miss A Chance To Shut Up

Talking is nice. Conversing and having nice conversations with friends can be pleasant. Getting up in front of people to speak on any subject. Not so nice and I refuse to do that as much as possible. But, I have learned over the 65+ years that I have been in this life that less is more. In my writing as much as in real life. I like to be listened to when I talk to the kids. I appreciate adults that listen and don't interupt me when I talk. But, I in turn have tried, in turn, to not run on at the mouth. My mom would get nervous and she would run on. I used to as well and have really tried to curb this.
Do you feel like you are a yacker? Do you speak from the heart and then shut up? Are you a gifted speaker?

I was never a talker. I was always a listener. I learned that at a young age. I always look around and listen. I learn more that way. I also don't like or care for people who interrupt me. But it happens from time to time. I think I have a good balance of listening and talking.

@celticeagle I think everyone gets shaky talking when they get nervous. We get thrown off our concentration.

I have stood up in front of people and given speeches, read passages from books or the Bible depending on the circumstance and have been in a leadership role where needing to speak in a large setting was mandatory. I was always nervous when I did and it showed in the quavery tone of my voice and how my hands shook. I'm also a talker. I do my very best not to interrupt people, but I know I do. I can speak on some topics it seems, unending. So I know I need to curb my talking, and do when I realize how much I've talked about something.

Interruption is the worst I think. I get excited and fear I will forget what I want to say. But, I do try to wait for my turn.

@celticeagle That's my problem too. It's hard for me to wait, especially when thoughts are there one moment and gone the next.

Some people are prone to talk too much but if they stop to take a breath and give others a chance to respond and join in then that is OK with me.

That is how a conversation is supposed to go. Some like to monopolize the conversation and that can be a problem.

I love to shut up in fact I am so tired of talking about anything, the only time I do talk is when I am in my counselors office.

@celticeagle Not really. You tend to forget the size.

@celticeagle it is funny, some of my kids are exactly the opposite, very very talkative. I guess they got it from their Dad. Others are me, but not quite as shy as I am. That is a good thing.

I try to listen and speak when appropriate. Sometimes I interject when I shouldn't and apologize after I put my foot in my mouth.

I never know the right thing to say, and probably yammer on too much. I feel the need to get my point across and don't quite have the right words to do it, so I just keep repeating the same thing only in a different way each time.

I have a real problem with tact. I like to be honest but sometimes it is rather difficult.

according to my kids and some younger friends, i talk to much and tend to say the same things or ask the same questions too much. so lately been trying to curb that and when one says i do it, i tell them, sorry, not my fault , its what old people do! lol1 person likes this

My mom used to do that. She would tell me some story about something that happened to her. She would start to tell me the whole thing over again. I could set the phone down and go do something and come back and she would never know I was gone.

I'm pretty much the same way. I have gotten some social anxiety now and it is harder for me to be around any people except my immediate family.
