Can you reinfect yourself?

Can you re-infect yourself after you've had a cold? As I have recently re-covered from a head cold I wonder this. Of course I have thrown out the trash, but I have also done things like thrown out my toothbrush, and several chapsticks I used while I was sick. Further more I wiped off the tops layers of the jar of face cream I had been using, wiped my eyeliner off on a tissue and squeezed out and disposed of the top little bit of the tooth paste tube. Am I being paranoid or could these things cause me to fall sick again? Let me know your opinion... I'm curious.

Dear Curious one,
Once you've had the cold your body has built up immunity to that particular strain of virus. However, it's a good idea to maintain a high level of hygiene as you could still be vulnerable to catching other viruses or bacterial infections.

@FayeHazel You're welcome
We seem to be in a permanent battle with microscopic enemies who are intent on causing us harm. I fear we will eventually lose this battle.

Curious one, I like that. Thank you. Good to know - so I can't reinfect myself, but I could catch something from someone else

@Orson_Kart Oh no! They could help us, too. Do you remember reading the book or watching the movie "War of the Worlds"?

I would never have thought of doing any of this so I found this post very interesting. I suppose it is possible to reinfect yourself although if you've got over the cold perhaps you can fight off those particular germs. It will be interesting to read what others have to say.

@FayeHazel Many years ago now, my grandson came to my home, as was common back then, for the weekend. It was the beginning of fall. He had a cold. I got the cold, and since it traveled through the family, it was almost spring before I finally got rid of that winter cold. I haven't had one to that extreme since.

I usually throw the thrash, clean my room nicely and wash everything. I never throw out my things.

I doubt very much that there is any worry there. I have not had a cold for years, but think that it comes from viruses that once exposed to, can't reinfect the same person. I never took precautions like that when I had a cold.

I've always thought that once you are over a cold, you were immune to catching that particular cold again. That's what I've heard, anyway.

I am so happy that is what seems to be the popular opinion
