Yesterday my younger son called. He sounded so tired when I talked to him in the early afternoon. I was concerned as soon as I heard his voice. But there is an explanation.
He had stayed up all night finishing his presentation. He just wants to be done. I guess he figured one more late night and he would finally be done with it all. He is burnt out.
He gave his presentation which was 2 hours he told me, and was told right then and there that he had fulfilled all the requirements needed and was awarded his Master's Degree in Astro Physics. And this mom is bursting with pride.
He is the first in our family to go this far in education. He has a few things to tie up at school and then he is done. I know some of you know he was going to continue with his education to get his PhD but he has been in school full time for just over 20 years and he is only 24, he is spent. He is going to look for a job and see how that goes for him. I can't say but maybe some day he will go back for his PhD. That is his decision. For now he is going to be a regular joe in the working world. That will be a new experience for him as well.
This is a picture of my son while he was at Purdue University the day the Higgs Boson was discovered. He was on a team of 6000 who were involved in the discovery. He is now at Michigan State University where he earned his Master's Degree.

Congrats to all of you, especially your son who did the work!! I know the importance of such a degree since my father had his Master's and was dean of a college when he retired.

@AbbyGreenhill It sure is, thankfully he has enough money saved to live for a month or two without a job, then he has mom and dad if need be.

Getting a bachelor's degree is no easy task. Finishing a master's degree is no walk in the park either. But getting a master's degree in Astro Physics? That is quite an amazing accomplishment! You have every right to be proud of his accomplishments, because not many people can achieve the level he has reached!

@moffittjc I do too but that could take a while What he really wants to do is work data analysis for the Chicago Cubs. My sister knows someone who works for the Cubs so they are going to put in a word for him I hope.

Yes I'm sure it would. Danny knows that but he needs a much deserved brake. He says he can get a really good job with his Master's Degree, but I think it's the academic break he really needs. Thanks Dianne

@fishtiger58 As I said, my husband went back eventually. He had gotten his Master's and 6th Year in supervision and administration right after college. He was burnt out, too. He finally returned to school when I had our first son. Your son, I know, needs a break, too. Perhaps he won't need to further his education with the career he chooses.

@DianneN He might not. He is looking to get a data analyst job and he said they start at around 60k that's a good wage for a 24 year old. He also doesn't have any educational debt as he has had a full ride all the way through, for which I am eternally grateful.

@ridingbet Yes it is but he is so tired of it all, he has to do something else in his life instead of constant school. So that's what he is going to do.
