Are you a touchy-feely person?

I am certainly not, and I never have been. I don't like to be touched or hugged or anything like that by anyone apart from my wife, I have always been the same, I don't know why it is just how I was raised. I even feel uncomfortable hugging my mother, mother in law... anyone!
My mother was not very huggy, nor was my father, in fact I can count on one hand the amount of times I hugged them as an adult.
Don't get me wrong, I don't recoil if someone I have just met hugs me and I will always hug back because that's what you do, but I find it DEEPLY uncomfortable.
I saw our wedding photographer in the street a few days ago and he came up and gave me a hug and a kiss, and I appreciate his friendliness, but a simple hello or a handshake would suit me much better, I feel a little mean spirited saying it but it makes me uncomfortable.
Do you hug or like it when people you barely know touch or hug you like they have known you for ages?

I grew up in a household where hugging was not common....when it occurred...it wasn't for loving reasons. (Now I sound like a b***h)
It took me a long time to learn to appreciate a hug from friends. And extended family.
If you are not comfortable hugging...share that information with your friends. Most will appreciate your honesty and respect your boundaries. We all have a "personal space". Some require more space than others.

I am glad I am not the only one who has this issue. I have told a lot of people, I just don't want to come across as cold and grumpy because I swear I am not.

Because of my background, I don't hug my parents/siblings or kiss any one. I only hug and kiss my husband and children, especially the younger one. My daughter always complain because I stop hug/kiss her. (Even though I really want to but I can't...)

@Clairelouiser Yeah, so usually my daughter will be the one comes to hug me or kiss me... There are times she begs me to kiss her but I can't... Am I a bad mum?

@atoz1to10 I could never judge you on your parenting skills, but she must feel a bit bad if you hug your younger child and not her? I know I would.

@Clairelouiser That's what I figured. But not all of us will be completely okay with touchy feely people.

No. I don't like it. Invasion of space or whatever. You don't have to hug to express care.

I definitely don't like when people I barely know touch or hug me, or even people I've known for a while. I really only feel comfortable hugging my significant other or my mom other people if I see them coming up to me to say hi or bye I try to stick my hand out before they reach for me so they know I don't want a hug.

There is nothing wrong if the person who hugs me is known. Otherwise it makes one awkward.
