Day 126
Proverbs 15:28
Proverbs 15:28 The heart of the righteous studies to answer: but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil things.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked: but he hears the prayer of the righteous.
30 The light of the eyes rejoices the heart: and a good report makes the bones fat.
All too often it seems everyone suffers from foot in mouth disease. We speak before we have had any time to think about what we’re going to say, instead blurting out the first thing that comes to mind, and it isn’t always flattering. However, that isn’t an everyday occurrence as it is with someone who deliberately and maliciously says things to cause trouble. The best thing anyone can do is think before they speak. Parents are always admonishing their children to do so. Adults should listen to their own advice.
Solomon was a man who studied everything, particularly man’s behavior. He saw how God blessed those who used caution when they spoke and how he ignored foolish and wicked people. With God blessing those who used caution and determined to make a good impression on those around them, it was easy for him to also show them favor as well.
When things go well, it makes a person happy in whatever they put their hands to and makes the day go much better.
Paul told the people that before Christ came into their lives, they were all wicked and had no right to God’s favor.
Ephesians 2:1 And you hath he quickened, who were dead in trespasses and sins;
2 Wherein in time past ye walked according to the course of this world, according to the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that now works in the children of disobedience:
3 Among whom also we all had our conversation in times past in the lusts of our flesh, fulfilling the desires of the flesh and of the mind; and were by nature the children of wrath, even as others.
Before you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, you were on your way to Hell. It didn’t matter whether you considered your words or actions. It was all the same in God’s eyes. You were all sinners who needed salvation.
Once you accepted Jesus as Savior and Lord, the good report of your life was and is your salvation and it is enough to bring joy to your soul. Your life is rich now in Jesus Christ. Any wrong you commit is washed away with a simple prayer of confession, acknowledging your sin, and the repentance of your heart cleanses you and make you whole again as God replaces your filthy rags with robes of righteousness.
Titus 3:3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another.
4 But after that the kindness and love of God our Saviour toward man appeared,
5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;
6 Which he shed on us abundantly through Jesus Christ our Saviour;
7 That being justified by his grace, we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life. (KJV)
Hoof in mouth disease doesn’t need to be your lot in life. Consider your words and actions in light of your salvation and God’s grace and favor will rest on you.
Let’s pray: Father, help me consider my words and actions before I say and do them. Remind me that my hope, my salvation is in Jesus Christ, your Son, and I am no longer dead to sin, but alive in Christ Jesus. Remind me that I traded my filthy rags for robes of righteousness and your grace and favor cleanses me from all unrighteousness when I come before you confessing my sin and receiving your forgiveness. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
