The "Angel" Shot.

Have you heard of it? I saw something on facebook a few days ago, about this shot that a woman can order at a bar. It's a way to alert the bartender that you are in danger. There is actually a few different ways to order it, and each one has a different result. I forget the terminology for all, but basically one gets you escorted to your car by the bartender, another gets an uber or lyft called on your behalf, and the third is the most severe. The third gets the police called to assist you. Now I've seen something more recent on it, and it seems Hooters has taken up this intiative, though I am not sure whether it was them who started it to begin with. I have mixed feelings on this. For one, I think it's a good idea. It's something to help those women who are uncomfortable and need a way out, or even for those in dire situations. However, on another note I fear that it might become something that is somewhat misused. What if someone orders the "Angel Shot" In the manner that gets the police called on the man, and yet the man had done nothing untowards? On another side note, where is the "Code word" for the men, as they have every right to have one. Women aren't the only victims.

Well, if the bartender does not understand it useless and if I would feel in danger I would get out my cellphone and directly call the police.

I appreciate your gusto, but there are so many variables to a situation where that might not be possible. Even so, I myself would be more likely to get my own help rather than rely on a bartender or third party to do it for me.

@ScribbledAdNauseum Who can assure me that the bartender will not try to be abusive when we are alone? The best for the girls is never to go out alone, better to be with a group of friends, but when in danger, get out your phone and call immediately.

I can't say that I do as there's just too much leeway with it. @jstory07

@JolietJake Just skimmed through the article but I think the whole idea can really be summed up in the first few lines where they indicate it's a clear possibility the assailant would know about the code word, and that just brings me back to my theory that a potential rapists wouldn't very well let his (or her) prey walk away.

I agree with your expectation of abuse, especially once people have had a few drinks. It would not take long before the system became ineffective due to the proverbial 'crying wolf''.

@ScribbledAdNauseum That is the real problem.

I also don't think anyone should rely on their bartender to call them a cab for the sake of getting a way from their date.

Yes, it's a good idea. But, why spread it all over the media? Ruins the effect I think.

I don't disagree that it's stupid, but not just because it's simpler to simply say you need help. It's also stupid because well, now the angel shot idea is all over the internet. Not only that but I feel as if it's now open to being abused, wherein women who aren't actually in a bad situation use it. I'm sorry, but our world is crazy now and I can very easily see that happening.

@Plethos Well regardless, you wouldn't find me on a first date at a bar either way. Of course, with the exception of restaurants with bars in them.

@ScribbledAdNauseum - the easy solution is to go with a group of friends. A she-wolf pack or mixed with guys.

I agree, it could be of help, but could be abused too.

The idea is a good one, but not practical in today's times.
