TV adverts - an interruption or an entertainment?

Television adverts are rather a nuisance as they interrupt programs that we are enjoying. Sometimes, however they can be productive for their commercial backers and also entertaining for those who have to patiently wait for them to finish.
I remember one such advertisement for mashed potatoes. It featured aliens in a spaceship commenting on the peculiarities of the human race when they prepared potatoes. The commentary, given by an alien with an electronic voice, described the whole process from peeling to boiling to mashing - much to the amusement of the other aliens with him. It ended with peels of alien laughter and a four word slogan from the producer ‘for mash get Smash’.
It was very entertaining and it must have encouraged people to buy some instant potatoes to avoid the ritual and inconvenience of cooking them. It was a brilliant advert and, as is obvious from this post, it was also a memorable one.

Do you remember the one about the too good to hurry mint - there were various versions on the same theme?

@41CombedaleRoad Oh yes, I remember that, and another one that sticks in my mind is "You'll wonder where the yellow went when you brush your teeth with Pepsodent".

@jaboUK Ooh yes I remember that too. Then there was the 'shirt you don't iron' - I liked that one too.

I haven't tasted instant potatoes for a long time but I think it might be handy to have a least one packet in the pantry for emergencies.

Decades ago, we would pay for cable TV so we didn´t have commercials. Now commercials take more time than the shows. It´s a legal scam.
