I appear to have been using the wrong time since I arrived in Tenerife.

This was a potential problem back when I used a wrist watch, but for a few years I have relied on my mobile phone for the time .In theory this should make it impossible to use the wrong time zone. I place my mobile phone into Airplane Mode when I board the plane and switch it back on when I arrive at the destination airport. Since I have it set to acquire the time from the network, it connects to the local phone network and adjusts the time accordingly. I had noticed a neon sign outside a local pharmacy that displayed the time as 1 hour earlier, but I simply assumed that it was wrong. While having a coffee in the local cafe my attention was drawn to the clock due to the unusual chime as it reached the hour and I noticed that the time displayed was also 1 hour earlier. Apparently the local time is 1 hour earlier than mainland Spain, but the telephone network is the mainland network. Fortunately this is not critical because I was not really bothered about the actual time of day.

No time like the present to find out you've been ahead of yourself for the better part of your stay. . How are you going to use the extra hour you've just acquired?

A good question. I now have 1 more hour before heading back to sunny England.

@Asylum I am sure you can find a handy cafe to sit in and people-watch over a nice long drink for an hour.

I am glad that the time is not an issue when on vacation. I usually trust my radio controlled alarm clock, for the moment it never failed to give the right time.

It would if the signal came from a different time zone.

@LadyDuck That would not have helped since I was using the wrong time zone.

@Asylum The radio frequency of the radio controlled clocks always come from Germany (the primary and backup transmitter are located in Mainflingen, 25 km of Frankfurt am Main). You have to let your clock know which time zone you are in. Those clocks should get the signal in every European country. I get it very well here in Switzerland, it was a bit harder in some places, but it worked.

I guess that the time you eat or sòeep is not really that important but I do hope that you get to the airport on time and don't miss your flight back because of having the wrong time on your phone

I was close to missing my flight, but not because of the time on my mobile.

@Asylum .....I'd rather take a train. I don't really like to fly. And, my arms get so tired.

I am really surprised, I too would have expected the local time to be correct on the phone.

@BelleStarr Even though they use a Spanish network, I would expect the local transceivers to change the time zone.

As far as I was concerned I could not be wrong because the network provided the time.

It is nothing serious to be 1 hour earlier, but it is a bother if boarding a plane is involved.

It would not cause me to miss the plane, but I would be waiting for the transfer 1 hour longer.

So that I won't rush myself too much I try not to check the time during the day when I work on my PC. I only check the time if I have something cooking otherwise it stresses me out to see how fast time flies.

you shouldn't be looking at the time - wake up when you want and sleep when you need

I was about to say, when you are on holiday to a beautiful island, you should not have any concept of time, other than knowing whether it is day or night. As locals like to say, "You're on island time now."

Since you're not there to attend meetings or meet up with a lot of people, having the wrong time is probably not the issue it would be otherwise. You'll just need to remember it's off when it's time to catch your next plane. I was confused when someone talked about your postcard you sent her from tenerife when I thought you were still in Cyprus. I thought I remembered from bubbs that Tenerife was off the coast of Spain. She didn't bother to enlighten me. Now that I looked through other comments here, I see this is an older post, not newer as I first thought. You were here before cyprus it seems?

Yes, I went to Tenerife a few weeks before Cyprus. Actually Tenerife is around 600 miles South of mainline Spain and off the coast of Morocco. As you say, it is only when setting off home that the time is significant.
