#9 in my Favorite Independent Record Labels series is a very small label, yet I've enjoyed their output for many, many years now: Merciful Release. Merciful Release was founded in the early 1980's by Sisters of Mercy vocalist Andrew Eldritch as a way to release the band's singles. And they released a lot of them (most of which eventually ended up on the Sisters Some Girls Wander by Mistake compilation.) Merciful Release has, however, occasionally put out singles, and sometimes full albums by other bands. There are a couple of really good singles by The March Violets out there, as well as a couple by Salvation. You'll also find Gift, the album from Eldritch's one off side project, The Sisterhood, on Merciful Release. Sisterhood vocalist James Ray in particular has benefited from the label, which has released several records by James Ray and the Performance, James Ray's Gangwar, and Ray's project MK Ultra. Unfortunately, that's about it. As I said, Merciful Release is a small label. Their website has been "under construction" for years now, and there really isn't a lot of information about them out there. But for such a small endeavor, they have released a lot of great music over the years. (Info verified by Wikipedia)

I happen to be a friend of one of The March Violets. Great to see the label get such acclaim.

@teamfreak16 not seen the band live but I have met lead singer Rosie Lugosi at poetry events - she compered my own public debut performance - lovely lady and a great writer / performer too - her novels, written as Rosie Garland are terrific too

Most people haven't. It's kind of aimed at a very specific audience.

Well, I've heard of Sisters of Mercy and MK Ultra, but not any of the other bands you mentioned (or of the label). I must admit I tend toward the more commercial stuff, but I'm currently rockin' out to the song you linked to :)

I'm glad you liked it. I pretty much do these for my own amusement, so it's always nice if someone likes it.

Interesting that there is not a website for the label. You'd have thought in today's connected world they wouldn't miss such a simple trick

The Sisters website hasn't been updated in a couple years now, either.

Wow, I didn't know that was Eldritch. I have wondered what Patricia Morrison has been up to all these years... seems since she married Vainien she dropped off the face of the earth

Apparently, from what a friend told me, she quit The Damned and is basically staying at home as a wife. I can't remember if she and Vanian have any kids or not.
