When It’s Breaktime , It’s Breaktime !

At 10:00 a.m. the bell rang for break time or snack time. The employees went out to buy foods at the canteen because it’s only for 15 minutes . Though for others who have eaten a heavy breakfast before going to the office would choose to just listen to music or browse at the internet. Me, I chose to eat brunch inside our office room, since I already bought earlier, my viands from the canteen and have my packed rice with me. While taking my brunch during break time, I saw from the open door of our office room, that the E-Bingo head went to the Logistic employee having his break time by just listening to his earphone. The E-Bingo Head was following up his requests for office supplies. He is always like this; would go to an employee even though it is their break time or even during lunch time, while they eat. Another employee, actually my co-auditor told me this . I told her “You should have told him it’s lunch time”. But this time upon seeing him at the Logistics cubicle, I approached and told him “ It’s breaktime , please give ____ his break time and even yourself. When it’s breaktime , it’s breaktime .” He timidly smiled and answered “yes, mam”, stood up and was gone. When he was gone the Logistic employee thanked me. I told him “don’t thank me, next time you tell him it’s breaktime” . Your thoughts please ... . . Good afternoon everyone, it’s a sunny day over here and Mayon Volcano is in its glory as you can see in the picture.

That's what I hate too. They come to the office or call during lunch break. I sometimes hang the phone so that it won't ring.

At the office , when it's breaktime and the phone rings , nobody will answer it even if the employees are there already . The employees after eating are sleeping.

@magallon Yes , you should answer that since your school president calls during that time . Here , our GM is gone before lunchtime so we know she wouldn't call . Besides, she calls through our cellphones , so all our cellphones are on call. he he he

@SIMPLYD oh that's good. But here, i really have to answer it if it rings during lunch time because sometimes it is the President or vice president of the college who calls.

The only ones that should have no break time are the business owners who has to work anytime when they want to. Break time is a privilege of workers and they should not be disturbed with things that are work related

And this is mandated at the Labor Code. SM follows that very much. When I worked there as accountant for the foodcourt we even have a women and men's lounge where we can eat and sleep or just simply relax on break time . And we have to log out and in also .

@louievill Yes, he is a workaholic according to the old employees when I worked there. During those times when I was with their Leisure Center and he is already old but still mobile , he would make a sudden visit at the food courts unannounced . So when he does that an employee would go to the office and say that "tatang" is at the foodcourt . I report the comparative sales to date compared to the past year in his ears because he is already a bit deaf.

Some people are workaholic and do not take breaks which is just fine as long as they do that to themselves and not stepping into other people's right to have a break...

That is true . They should not disturb others who are taking their relaxation during break time. Actually, one of the former offices I was many years ago, it was strict with break time. The employee should log out and log in even if they didn't go out or just there relaxing. They don't want to violate the labor law that explicitly states that employees should be given at least an hour for lunch break and 15 minutes each for break time , one in the morning and one in the afternoon. They even have a women's and men's lounge within the vicinity of the office where they can nap should they like or just simply be there and share stories with officemates.

I'm amused that a bell has still to be rung for your breaktime. It reminds me of recess time in the school :)

Exactly. It's recess time . It's a given privilege to the employees and it means it's the only time when one can eat and relax.

And that's not good , because break times are for the employees to eat or relax even for that short period only. It has been raining for the past weeks now, and it's just now that she can be seen fully well.

I dislike it when any one disturbs me in break time in my office. We do not get official break time of 15 minutes like you for taking our breakfast. Unofficially, some of the staff go to departmental canteen to take tea and snacks. Our official break time is during lunch time from 1.00 p.m. to 2.00 p.m.. However, there are some incorrigible souls, who come and disturb you for official work even during lunch break. I dislike these kinds of employees/officers. I tell them point blank on their face that it is my lunch time and they should show minimum courtesy to not to disturb me during my break.

@SIMPLYD Even your boss has no business to disturb you during your break, until and unless it is something which is extremely urgent.

Precisely, i don't want to be disturbed too when i am eaiing . Unless that it is my boss. ha ha ha Although, with my boss, i would tell her i am already "low bat" so i need my break , to which she will not deny me of it. Wow, 1:00 to 2:00 is your unch break. That's already late. Though for executives , they have that lunctime indeed.

That is so true. It is the employees' way of getting re-invigorated , if not by eating, by simply relaxing for 15 minutes during snack times, one in the morning and another in the afternoon. Lunch is for one hour.

Yes , it is on the side of the office space we have. That's how it should be with break time , a break from work , so you just have to excuse yourself. Though if you have a client and then it's break time we should do it in a humble and apologetic way to excuse ourselves.

@SIMPLYD If we are with a client or something where we cannot take a break then then thats understandable. But if its another employee wanting to invade your break time then I'd excuse myself =)

@infatuatedbby Yes, i agree. And after attending to the client you can already take your snack even if the time for it is past . It could be noted by the HRD that you weren't able to do so because you have a client at that time.

I have worked places where I had been asked to work through break and either take a later break or an extra long lunch (lunch plus break time). This didn't bother me if I was given the opportunity to make up the break. Many jobs here give 15 minute breaks but there are still a few that only give 10 minute breaks. I even heard of a place where employees had to sign out when they when to the restroom (toilet) then sign in when they came back to work. If they were gone more than 5 minutes their pay was deducted.

@SIMPLYD It's rare here that a company will make the employees sign out when they go to the restroom, but that company did. I don't think I would work for a company like that.

I told her to tell him that it's lunch break as he can see her eating already . And also this Logistic person is always approached just as he is about to take a break. I hope he will now don't do it anymore.

I agree with you...break time is break time. Just to rejuvenate and power up again before you begin routine work. When you start work, after a little break, you are more focus and productive. At least, for me. I always use my break time to do just that...take a break.

Precisely . Just like you , when it's break time , it's break time for me. I get annoyed when someone would approaches me for a transaction . I excuse myself and tell the person to come back after the break time .And the guards have instruction already that when it's break time, the clients should be told to wait since it's break time. But it's when it's my boss , I tell her I am "low bat" already and have to take the break. She readily says after I have taken a break then . he he he
