I know bees had a rough ride since awhile now. With all those harsh chemicals that the farmers are using, and the lawn pesticide. But I thought I should have gone for it before, to take care of bees, but no I had made my decision to wait until the kids were grown up or that I had less to do and get busy with.. So after 35 years already that I had in mind to become a beekeeper. Many things to get ready with, I take one step at a time. I do slowly build up with the equipment I need to take good care of them. My big concern is the black bear that we do have in our nearby neighborhood. So I did some research on the case. I would need a small electric fencing. But one that would help the most on top of all that is to strap the whole beehive together. I sure not trying to attract them with food. Last year these black bears, I mean one of them, Was near enough of sight so I could tell if it was a mom or a baby. Anyway, we are going to tackle this part by near spring.... I sure do not give up. photo from pixabay

wow that's quite an undertaking, much good luck with that and keeping the bears out, they do like honey.

Yes, we need to set a fence that can zap them well.

@beenice2 I can certainly understand that, what's the point of keeping bees if the bears are going to trash the hives getting to the honey.

@fishtiger58 Yes and it can be so disappointing to see your work all going in to smoke.

Good luck for your project. I have had a cousin who was a beekeeper and I learned a lot of things about bees and honey with him when I was a teen. Fortunately we have no bears in France, but our bees are now attacked and eaten by Asian wasps. It is a real threat, because 100 wasps are enough to do a lot of damages in a beehive.

I hope that the wasps problems goes away, and that there is a quick solution for it
