Favorite Independent Record Labels #3

The countdown continues. #3 in my Favorite Independent Record Labels belongs to Cleopatra. Cleopatra was formed in Los Angeles by Brian Perara in 1992. The label started out providing a home to second generation goth bands, as well as back catalog from older, established goth acts. Eventually, Cleo branched out and released other genres, such as 80's metal bands. The label is also known for putting out numerous tribute CD's featuring their roster. (if there is a band out there, odds are Cleopatra has a goth tribute out there for them.) While some of them are not that good, quite a few are really good (tributes to Prince, Depeche Mode, and U2 were especially good.) Cleo has been quite successful, and they now own the Hypnotic, Purple Pyramid, Deadline, and X - Ray labels, as well as Cleopatra Films. Over the years, Cleo has released CD's by newer (at the time) goth bands such as The Wake (a great live band, by the way,) Children on Stun, Screams for Tina, and Rosetta Stone, as well as old school goth albums by the likes of Christian Death and Alien Sex Fiend.
