Laundry Question... and A Bit of a Brag

I am doing the laundry and AFTER I washed a brand new pair of pants I read the label on the inside. The instructions said not to use fabric softener. What harm would a fabric softener do to a product?
My daughter currently works for WestJet Airlines at the Toronto airport. Her title is Guest Services Ambassador. She helps guests do everything from printing out their boarding passes at the kiosks, to telling people who have transferring flights where to go, to helping out in the kennels, pushing wheelchairs, assisting unassisted minors. It's a lot of variety and very busy. Her ultimate goal is to work in Border Services, but she wouldn't be working for the airlines anymore and wouldn't get the free airfare, but she would get the big bucks.
In the meantime, next week she starts training for CATSA (Canadian Air Transport Security Authority), the same thing as the TSA in the U.S. She has two weeks of classroom training and then a week or two "out on the floor" before she can turn her stripes on her shirt right side up. This will be in addition to working for WestJet. She knows a few people she works with do it. They come in and work their shift at the airlines, then go change their uniform and work for CATSA scanning people and their carry-on baggage. This is essentially a government job. She is stressing out about it because she is going to be working a lot and she's not sure the transition will go as she would like - working at the Airlines in the morning and CATSA in the afternoon/evening. I told her that life is full of transitions and it never ends.
I'm proud of her. I hope she doesn't wear herself out or get so stressed out she starts taking it out on her loved ones.
So her uniform of many items came in and the pants and blouses are very stiff so she put them in the laundry basket. Which brings us back to the laundry question... I use fabric softener in all my loads and already ran the pants through the wash and dryer. Her blouses, which I haven't laundered yet, also say no fabric softener. Does anyone know why? Is it possible they don't want the clothing they are wearing to have an aroma of any sort? It won't DAMAGE the clothes, will it?

The blouses and pants were really stiff. I did use fabric softener for both, none came out smelling like fabric softener. The blouses are still pretty stiff, but the pants aren't. I imagine the blouses are going to be rather uncomfortable.
