When I was a kid and until I was in my thirties we got our mail from the mailman coming to our door and putting the mail into our box that was on the wall beside the door or in the slot in our door.
Except when we lived in an apartment all the mailboxes were by the front building door where we had to go get our mail.
Sometimes our mail was not delivered timely or sometimes even lost!
When I was in my mid thirties the world wide web came about and per email we got some mail that way.
.
As more years go by the "snail mail" as it is called, the normal mail service is still not very trustworthy. People even with houses no longer get their mail delivered to boxes at their doors.
How do you prefer to get your mail?

@silvermist I totally agree, of course unless it is a package.

We are still getting mail at our door. Canada Post is trying to eliminate that across the country by having community lock boxes for everyone. Though it may get me out of the house every day to go for a walk down the road, I don't like that they are doing this. I know that means there will be a lot of jobs lost at Canada Post.
One of the issues at the locked community boxes is that people throw their junk mail on the ground instead of taking it home with them and putting it in the recycle bin. I think this will increase if the whole country has nothing but lock boxes.
I also don't like that the utility companies have decided to charge us $2 per bill for a snail mail bill. They want us to get e-bills instead, which we do. But that again is putting people out of work and computers are not always reliable. In fact there were times when I didn't get my e-bill. Add to that, not everyone has access to a computer unless they go to the library. What about the elderly? Big businesses making things cheaper for them but harder for the people.

The "snail mail" is not reliable either. My sister that lived about 45 minutes from us sent my 6 year old son a card, he is now 36 and we still have not got it.
, this past Christmas I was to receive something I needed in time to shop just before Christmas and it was mailed on December 17th and I did not receive it till January 4th!
Then my mother who does not pay her bills online or will receive her bills online either. She did not receive her December phone bill, On the 15th of January she called the phone company to fing that they did mail it and that she had no choice but to pay her bill online that day or she was going to have to pay a late fee.
We too have mail cubicles with boxes on it for many neighbors in them.We have to walk over 2 blocks to get the mail. All of us are not medically well and I especially have a hard time going there in the cold! Some peoples junk mail is put on top of them and blown off onto the ground. I am sorry that you are getting them there too.

I would prefer email because like you said some mails are lost when sent via mailman.
