Day 144
Proverbs 17:2
Proverbs 17:2 A wise servant shall have rule over a son that causes shame, and shall have part of the inheritance among the brethren.
Trustworthy people are welcome anywhere. Everyone knows at least one person they can trust with their lives. Those are the people who have authority over those who bring shame and disgrace to their lives.
As king, Solomon had many advisors and people in positions of authority. He also needed servants to care for his children, so he knew the value of a trusted servant and was willing to give that person an inheritance among his children as a trusted family member.
As Christians, you are servants of Jesus Christ. You also have an inheritance with Jesus as a child of God.
That is not to say, Jesus is the son of shame. He’s not. It is all of us who are sons and daughters of shame, having listened to and heeded the ways of this world before accepting Jesus as Savior and Lord. It was Jesus who became our shame. He took that shame and nailed it to the cross so we could inherit eternal life.
Now you and me, the sons and daughters of shame, can look to the servant, Jesus Christ, and know that our inheritance is equal in the eyes of God, because he no longer sees our shame, but sees the blood of Jesus covering our shame and declares us not guilty.
Ephesians 1:7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;
8 Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence;
9 Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself:
10 That in the dispensation of the fullness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him:
11 In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who works all things after the counsel of his own will:
12 That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ.
Not only is Jesus called a servant. So are you. As such, you also receive an inheritance through Jesus Christ.
Colossians 3:22 Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eye service, as men pleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:
23 And whatsoever ye do, do it heartily, as to the Lord, and not unto men;
24 Knowing that of the Lord ye shall receive the reward of the inheritance: for ye serve the Lord Christ.
25 But he that does wrong shall receive for the wrong which he hath done: and there is no respect of persons.
Therefore, your inheritance cannot be taken from you.
1 Peter 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, which according to his abundant mercy hath begotten us again unto a lively hope by the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead,
4 To an inheritance incorruptible, and undefiled, and that fades not away, reserved in heaven for you,
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.
You are servants, and you are heirs with Jesus Christ if you accepted him as Savior and Lord. If not, then you are still a son or daughter of shame and will receive the reward for those who reject Jesus as their Savior.
Let’s pray: Father, I am your child, your servant, your heir equal to your Son, Jesus Christ, who took my shame and nailed it to the cross. Help me remember that my inheritance cannot be taken from me through Satan’s lies, but is incorruptible, undefiled, and does not fade away. In Jesus’ name, I pray, amen.
