Yesterday I cleaned the house and I overdid it. Between scrubbing the tubs and mopping the floors I have totally wrenched my lower back and neck out of sorts. Nothing is helping with the pain. I was hoping hubby would give me a backrub last night but that did not happen. Now I feel horrible. I have taken Tylenol and a muscle relaxer that I was prescribed but they are not helping me at all. I have tried to stretch it out and to use my heating pad and hand held massager on my back but nothing is working. I will just have to deal with it. Anyone else suffer from back problems?

@LadyDuck sorry to hear about your back problems. It seems that it is one universal ailment. I think cleaning the tubs is what really got me. I am feeling better today.

@Shellyann36 The worst for me is mopping the floors, because this movement stresses my right shoulder.

I'm so sorry you wrenched your back and neck. I know that's painful. I've had enough back problems. Did you ask him to give you a back rub?

I did but he fell asleep before he gave me one. I was a bit peeved about that. The next day he gave me a really good backrub. I am still hurting a big but nothing compared to how I was feeling Sunday and Monday.

I have before and my back is problematic when the sciatica flares up and because I walk with a limp and have been for the past six months. I find that if I lay on my side and press on muscles with my thumb or finger, and this takes a while, but we can press harder than we want anyone else to since we know how much we can take. I find that doing this causes the muscles to relax and helps the back heal. It takes a while to get it done as you move your finger along bit by bit until you can't reach any further. Many times one area hurts but the area affected is further away. This may be a form of acupressure, but I've not checked that out yet to see. My husband learned to do this from a chiropractor years ago and we've been doing it ever since. It helped me get relief when I had the sciatica last winter, and I should be doing it more often now too.

@MarshaMusselman thank you for the info. I will try this. I did some stretching techniques that my chiropractor suggested. I am afraid that they did not work much this time around.

@Shellyann36 I just checked and this isn't what acupressure is, but we've found it works well if the time is taken to do it. My husband and I've done it for each other before especially for those out of reach places, but usually even if you do areas you can reach it helps the rest of the muscles you can't reach relax. It also hurts a lot more when he does it for me. I don't know if it's because he's doing it harder or because we can stop at any time. When you press on a muscle if it hurts like crap keep pressing after a few moments it should be alleviated and you can move a smidgen to work on the next section. You can start further away and move in. Once when I was doing the outside of my legs and working my way up to the hip I actually felt it in my back, so some of the tight muscles aren't necessarily where you think the pain is coming from.

I'm much older than you and I definitely have some back problems. I find that REST is the best thing, but not always easy to do, if you are a busy wife and/or mother. I hope you will soon feel better. Thankfully, I have a daughter who does all the heavy cleaning for me, because I can't do it anymore. She comes over once a week and runs the vacuum and cleans the kitchen floor and bathtub. Most of the rest I can do myself. She also cleaned my living room windows last week and I washed the curtains and put them back up.

@IreneVincent I am glad to hear that your daughter takes such good care of you. Hubby finally gave me a nice massage and my back stopped screaming at me. It is now down to a dull roar.

@Shellyann36 Yes, my daughter does a lot for me and so do my sons. I don't have to be concerned about taking out the trash or maintenance on my car or yard work either.

@JudyEv I think if I had just done one tub and then left the other one to do another day it would have been better for me. I was on a roll though and cleaned both.

Wow it must be really bad if all the stretching, heat and muscle relaxer did not work. My back has been out for a very long but I won't give in and go to the chiropractor. My neck has a big bump of bone that sticks out. Due to bad posture for many years its causing a hunchback I'm afraid. I am hoping yoga will help if I set up a good routine to do daily. I hope the tension in your muscles eases soon so you can get some relief.

@Shellyann36 I was in a car accident in 2001.. my neck has bothered me since. But if I workout a bit it doesn't hurt so bad. I play volleyball once a week so that seems to help.

@katsmeow1213 Glad, you don't suffer from any neck problems frequently. Mine started out in my neck years ago. Back then I had great insurance that covered a chiropractor. He worked wonders on my neck. Now I just have to work through it.

I'm sorry. =( I am having back issues as well. I have a lump in my lower back that's very painful. It hurts so bad. Sometimes when I am walking I will feel like a stabbing pain and then my leg will go out on me. =( I am more concerned since I will be going through labor soon and I have all back labor every time. I hope both of our backs will get better soon.

@LovingMyBabies I feel for you. Make sure you let your OB know about your pain. When I had Lil Keith, he got stuck and they practically wrenched my leg out of the socket on my right side. Only after this happened did my lower back start hurting so badly. Be sure to let everyone know before hand. to you as well. I hope yours gets better for certain. Being pregnant really puts a strain on the back and if you have problems already it is no fun.

If you get time maybe a warm epsom salts bath would help. Or even vinegar, if you can handle the smell. I hate when My back goes out.

@rebelann the Epsom salts sound great but I was afraid that if I got into the tub I would have a bigger problem getting out.

Yes I do I have to be very careful. I wish someone would massage your back for you. That is about the only thing that helps with mine, but of course, there is no one to do so, so usually have to just wait it out.

For the next time: Dollar Tree sells a menthol product that comes in a tube like deodorant. It helps some with pain relief.

I had sciatica a few years ago and that's the closest to back pain. This happens to my husband frequently in recent times. He can't do much for it, it eventually goes away.
